Teachers' union, the National Education Union, has launched a new website which gives COVID-19 data in the locality of every school in England. Updated weekly, the data also shows the trend since the previous week, whether or not the school is on a watchlist, and links to any local restrictions in place.

£1,000 FINE FOR NOT SELF-ISOLATING COMES INTO FORCE TODAY

Salford has 62 new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the cumulative total to 2,919. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced at Salford Royal Hospital.

Meanwhile, from today, people in England will be required by law to self-isolate if they test positive for the virus or are contacted by NHS Test and Trace. Fines for breaking the rules begin at £1,000 and could increase to £10,000 for repeat offenders. There is also a new £500 payment for those self-isolating, on low incomes and can't work from home.

Meanwhile yesterday, Greater Manchester Leaders spelled out the limited effectiveness of the current restrictions, with less than 11% of people self-isolating when told to do so, a 'significant minority' of people not complying with the rules, and a call for schools to review how they implement the policy of sending pupils home..

INDEPENDENT REPORT CONCLUDES THAT SWINTON GOLF COURSE IS VIABLE – BUT OWNERS PLAN TO CLOSE IT

The ongoing saga to Save Swinton Park Golf Club has taken a dramatic turn as an independent viability assessment report concluded that the club is viable, which means that to get planning permission to build houses on it after a sale would be extremely difficult.

However, the Club's owners are planning to shut it, despite a prospective buyer making an offer to buy the site and retain it as a golf course.

SALFORD ISLINGTON MILL GETS £6.8MILLION FOR REFURBISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT

This afternoon, members of Unite the Union held a socially distanced demo outside the AJ Bell Stadium to raise awareness of bus company, Go Ahead's policy of firing workers then rehiring them under worse terms and conditions. The company is also accused of victimising and gagging a Unite union representative from Salford.

The AJ Bell Stadium was targeted because Go Ahead has signed a contract to run buses for supporters of Salford Red Devils and Sale Sharks, when fans go back to stadiums.

At yesterday's meeting of Salford City Council, it was revealed that the legal costs of defeating Peel Holdings over its constant court and inquiry proceedings attempting to build houses on the Broadoak green space was in excess of £400,000.

Costs at the recent Court of Appeal case were awarded against Peel but were handed to the Government, which was the joint respondent in the case.

At this morning's full remote meeting of Salford City Council, the City Mayor, Paul Dennett, confirmed that there had been five "tragic" coronavirus related deaths in the city's care homes last week, with twelve care homes reporting outbreaks.

Meanwhile, Springwood Primary has become the latest school to confirm a case of COVID-19, while at the Council meeting Councillor Collinson asked the Deputy Mayor for details of how many year groups have been sent home. He refused to answer the question in public.

Local residents have launched a campaign to Save and Reopen The Unicorn pub on Liverpool Road in Eccles after its owners, the Wellington Pub Company, revealed plans to demolish the historic pub in order to build 16 houses, none of which will be affordable.

"I think the pub is should be listed building" says the campaign's Lee Hodson "...it could be put to an alternative use, and it would be a shame to lose it..."

The rate of virus positivity tests per 100,000 population in Salford has now hit 83.7, with almost every area of the city affected. In the week ending 6th September, Clifton had the most cases in the city, followed by Ordsall and Salford Quays, and Higher Broughton.

SALFORD VIGIL OF REMEMBRANCE TO BE LIVESTREAMED TONIGHT

Tonight from 7:30pm, there is to be a Vigil of Remembrance at a pop up drive-in cinema at the back of Salford Civic Centre to mark World Suicide Prevention Day. The actual event itself, featuring pre-recorded performance and appearances by Alison Moyet, Andy Burnham, Ben Akers and more, is sold out but is being livestreamed on You Tube.

SALFORD HAS 37 NEW CORONAVIRUS CASES AS ‘MOONSHOT’ TESTING STARTS IN SALFORD

VENUE AUDIENCES WILL BE TESTED IN SALFORD STATES PM

Salford has 37 new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the cumulative total to 2,041. There has been one new virus-related death at Salford Royal Hospital.

Meanwhile yesterday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson laid out his new "moonshot" virus testing plans being piloted in Salford in which "Theatres and sports venues could test all audience members on the day and let in those with a negative result...we are going to pilot this approach in Salford from next month, with audiences in indoor and outdoor venues."

GREATER MANCHESTER RISE IN COVID-19 HOSPITAL PATIENTS AND CARE HOME CASES

GREATER MANCHESTER MAYOR SAYS 'LOOK AT THE FIGURES AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE DOING...'

At this afternoon's press conference, Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, produced slides showing increasing numbers of COVID-19 hospital admissions in the region, and a slight increase in the percentage of care home residents with the virus.

He added that people in their 20s, 30s and 40s were largely responsible for the spread... "The danger is that...it's starting to go towards the older end of the population" he said, asking people to "think about what you are doing", and adding that "We don't believe restrictions and lockdowns are going to get us through this..."

TWO NEW DEATHS AT SALFORD ROYAL HOSPITAL AS TWO COVID PATIENTS A DAY ADMITTED

Salford has 15 new confirmed cases of coronavirus bringing the cumulative total to 2,004, with a rate of 62.4 cases per 100,000 people, one of the worst in the country. Salford Royal Hospital announced two further sad virus-related deaths yesterday, while the average number of COVID patients entering the hospital is two per day.

Meanwhile, last night, the Government imposed new legal limits on social gatherings over six people, with exceptions for places such as work and schools.

NEW CORONAVIRUS RESTRICTIONS IN BOLTON AS ANOTHER SALFORD SCHOOL GROUP BUBBLE SHUTS

HARROP FOLD YEAR 11 BUBBLE SHUTS DUE TO POSITIVE COVID-19 TEST

The Government has, this afternoon, imposed further restrictions in Bolton as the town hit 120 cases per 100,000 people, the highest rate in the country. The new clampdown means that all restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs are to close, apart from takeaways, and all venues must close between 10pm and 5am, while the ban on mixing households will be enforceable by law.

Today Harrop Fold School, on the Little Hulton Salford/Bolton border, closed its Year 11 bubble "with immediate effect due to positive COVID-19 test..."

SALFORD HAS 19 NEW CORONAVIRUS CASES AS YOUNG PEOPLE MENTAL HEALTH CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED

ALMOST HALF OF NORTH WEST PARENTS WORRIED ABOUT CHILDREN'S MENTAL WELLBEING

Salford has 19 new confirmed cases of coronavirus bringing the cumulative total to 1,989, as the Salford Health Protection Board states that it's shifting from responding to outbreaks, to "focus efforts on areas where there are no current outbreaks to prevent future outbreaks". There have been no new virus-related deaths at Salford Royal Hospital, although patient numbers in the North West are rising.

Today, Public Health England launches a new Every Mind Matters mental health campaign, as its new survey reveals that almost half of North West parents are worried about their children's mental wellbeing during the virus crisis.

TWO SALFORD PUPILS TEST POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS AT CO-OP ACADEMY SWINTON

After two pupils at the Co-op Academy Swinton tested positive for COVID-19 today, Year 7 and Year 10 children were sent home to isolate. This follows Year 7s being sent home after a confirmed case at Buile Hill Academy. Salford schools have been back for less than a week.

SALFORD HAS LARGEST NUMBER OF VIRUS CASES FOR MONTHS

Salford has 46 new confirmed cases of coronavirus bringing the cumulative total to 1,970 – the highest number of cases for months. There have been no new deaths at Salford Royal Hospital.

With cases totalling over 150 in the last week, Salford City Council and Salford City Mayor have said almost nothing publicly. Now surely is the time for the Council to publish daily figures of where outbreaks are occurring and all other information it has, as the community looks for some kind of leadership.

Conceived during the lockdown, many of the tracks marry Simon Williams' poems with music by Paul Frost and Vincent Sheedy...even though Simon has never met the pair.
