SALFORD CITY COUNCIL SCANDAL REVEALED AS SALFORD CITY REDS GIVEN SECRET WADS OF PUBLIC MONEY... NOW SALFORD CITY MAYOR MUST RESIGN
A complicated web of secret financial deals involving former Salford Council Strategic Director, Martin Vickers, Salford City Mayor Ian Stewart, Salford Red Devils owner, Marwan Koukash and Peel Holdings has finally been revealed in an incredible internal investigation by top Council officers.
Salford Council, authorized by Martin Vickers and with the Mayor's knowledge, agreed to hand Salford City Reds (now called Salford Red Devils) up to £164,000 in match day income from its Stadium – just weeks before Vickers took a job with the rugby club. The `informal' decision to subsidise Salford Reds was kept secret and never published, against Salford Council's own legal constitution.
The investigation report states that the City Mayor has "Primary legal and strategic responsibility for the operational management of the Council". Now Ian Stewart should resign, and a full Public Inquiry and police investigation into possible misuse of public money must be held.
