Tomorrow sees the final day of the Salford Star pop-up shop and exhibition, with an auction hosted by Nigel Pivaro of weird and wonderful Salford relics and bargain Christmas presents; plus street poetry from the spirit of Salford himself, Simon Williams, songs by the ace Chris Flynn and a Party On performance piece for all the family by artist Sandra Bouguerch.

Lots include a Holiday With The Salford Star (plus a night in a dangerously cladded tower block), the original Salford Star (£1,000,000 ono), artworks and photos, prints, amazing children's items from the Savannah-Rose Collection and loads more...

A BRICK FROM RINGO STARR HOUSE TO BE AUCTIONED TO SAVE THE SALFORD STAR

CAN RINGO STARR SAVE THE SALFORD STAR?

A brick from Ringo Starr's birthplace home in Liverpool is to be auctioned by Nigel Pivaro at Salford Precinct tomorrow in a bid to save the independent community news outlet, Salford Star.

The brick, taken from the former Beatle's house in the Welsh Streets of Liverpool, is hugely symbolic for Salford in loads of different ways..

On Sunday 9th December, the Salford Star is selling by auction relics from the last decade of the city's history in a bid to save the independent community news group.

Within the auction, conducted by Nigel Pivaro, will be a chance to bid for incredibly rare fragments from the Salford Quays Cargo Cranes, the Dirty Old Town gas holders and The Last Brick in Broughton, complete with a teapot that's been compulsorily purchased three times!

After 13 years and over five thousand articles the Salford Star is set to close early next year unless urgent funding can be found. Here, Gareth Lyons, who came to the Star as a volunteer nine years ago and is now chairman of the community group, explains how the Star has helped him personally and why it must survive... "Just don't let it die" he says "You never know when you may need us."

SALFORD MAYOR HAS £1MILLION FUND

Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, has a £1million 'discretionary fund' to spend on whatever takes his fancy. The Salford Star understands that this has been the case every year since the new mayoral system came into force in 2012, which would make it a cool £6million being spent without virtually any public knowledge of its existence.

Commendably, Dennett has spent the £1million this year on ethical projects but the scope for abuse is always lurking in the background.

ECCLES ARTIST ROB LEVER WOWS SALFORD PRECINCT WITH DIRTY OLD TOWN

EVEN SANTA LOVES DIRTY OLD TOWN!

One of the pictures on display and up for auction at the Salford Star pop-up exhibition/shop at Salford Precinct is Eccles artist Rob Lever's art nouveau-style print of Dirty Old Town, complete with the girl by the gasworks croft holding a mobile phone and a spliff.

Rob is a brilliant artist who prefers to let his work do the talking but here he explains a bit about his background, that Dirty Old Town print and his other paintings.

CHARLES TAYLOR AUCTIONEER OPENS BIDDING FOR SALFORD STAR LOTS

11 SALFORD STAR LOTS UP FOR BIDDING

Charles Taylor Auctioneer (Salford) has now opened the bidding for eleven special Salford Star lots for an auction taking place at its Salford base next Thursday 6th December at noon.

The auction will also be livestreamed to the Salford Star pop-up shop in Salford Precinct, where the lots can be viewed today, Saturday, and Sunday, before being taken to Charles Taylor for its public viewing day on 5th December. The Star shop is open 10am until 5pm and also has a wide range of Salford Star merchandise on sale, from key rings to t-shirts.

SANTA AND REINDEER VISIT SALFORD SHOPPING CENTRE

SANTA AT SALFORD SHOPPING CENTRE TODAY!

Today, Saturday 1st December, Santa, his elves and reindeer will be visiting Salford Shopping Centre between 11am and 3pm to herald the start of Christmas month and lots of free activities.

Santa will be checking whether children have been naughty or nice this year, while they can have their photo taken with the bearded one and his helpers.
