Capital and Centric developer, Tim Heatley, finally laid out his plans for saving the Buile Hill Park Mansion last night at a community meeting. The proposal included over sixty houses, built on the depot area of the park and what is currently the banqueting suite, which would be privately rented, affordable rented and available to the elderly.

The scheme was met with mixed reactions and Heatley said that he would hoist the white flag and walk away if he got 'mullered' by the community over the plans.

The ailing Salford Star is to hold a £1million treasure auction with a huge event in a pop-up unit at Salford Shopping Centre between 29th November and 9th December. Lots will include brilliant artwork from Salford's top artists, once-in-a-lifetime memorabilia from the city's recent past, unique photos from the Salford Star archive, incredible celebrity one-offs...and the original Salford Star itself.

The saga into the release of a safety report on the nine Pendleton Together (PTOL) blocks that were covered in dangerous Grenfell Tower style cladding continued at the full meeting of Salford City Council yesterday. PTOL has denied the existence of a 'report' and thus won't release it to the Salford Star.

In answer to a question by Councillor Paul Wilson, the Deputy Mayor, John Merry, also denied that it was a report, just "a series of surveys that PTOL compiled in terms of the state of the various blocks". He then went on to call it a 'report' three times.

A new homeless shelter has opened in Eccles, as an amalgamation of organisations has come together to occupy an old surgery that has been left empty for twenty years.

Around a dozen people have taken refuge in the shelter, including Stacey, who was faced with a choice of staying in a seriously abusive relationship or living on the streets before finding the group.

Planning has now been submitted for the Grade II listed Crown Theatre in Eccles, which proposes to save the facades of the building and some stairs and walls, while demolishing the rest.

The application seeks to convert the site for 82 market apartments, with no affordable housing or Section 106 payments, with a loss to the city of over £200,000 - and with an estimated profit for the developer of over £2million.

WALKING WITH THE SNOWMAN SCULPTURE TRAIL AT MEDIA CITY

From Thursday 22nd November until 6th January, there's going to be a free Walking with The Snowman sculpture trail at Media City, featuring twelve giant sculptures inspired by the song The Twelve Days of Christmas.

There'll also be a collection of smaller snowman sculptures, designed by local young people, displayed inside venues. The event celebrates the 40th anniversary of Raymond Briggs' book The Snowman, and there'll be an auction of the sculptures for Children In Need.

INCREDIBLE ARREARS INDICTMENT OF UNIVERSAL CREDIT

In a new City West Housing report for Salford City Council, it is revealed that, in Salford, the percentage of tenants on Universal Credit and in rent arrears is over double that for tenants who are not on Universal Credit. The figure is 78% compared to 37%.

City West currently has 1109 tenants claiming Universal Credit, and the company states that "The overall rent collection rate for these tenants for 18/19 is 93.05%, which is significantly lower than our collection rate for all tenants." It's yet another shocking indictment of the controversial benefit system.

CASH-STRAPPED SALFORD SCHOOLS NOT BENEFITING FROM PARENTAL FINES

A Freedom of Information response from Salford City Council has revealed that during the year 2017-18, £118,920 income was received from parental fines but didn't go directly to help cash-strapped schools in the city. Instead the money went to 'support council services generally'.

"I think the money should go back into education as the lack of funding is clearly apparent" says parent Mandi Lee, who put in the FOI request.

NEW REGULATIONS MEAN TIGHTER CONTROL OF ANIMAL BUSINESSES

New laws on the sales and keeping of animals mean that Salford City Council will be forced to tighten up on regulating puppy sellers and animal keepers through new national regulations.

One of the biggest changes is that a puppy at a breeder's "may only be shown to a prospective purchaser if it is together with its biological mother", and that inspections of premises are to be carried out by a qualified inspector, rather than the Council's Environment Health Team.

PENDLETON TENANTS ARE FOUR YEARS FROM SAFETY

The nine blocks of dangerous flats in Pendleton, owned by Salford City Council and managed by Pendleton Together, won't be safe as buildings until 2022, according to the latest accounts posted by Pendleton Together Operating Ltd.

External cladding work, the accounts state, will be completed by 2021 but other internal fire safety measures won't be complete until 2022. Meanwhile, the company recorded a loss of £23.5million last year, and adds that the "cost of further works are estimated to be £35.5million".

SECRETARY OF STATE DISMISSES PEEL HOLDINGS APPEAL TO BUILD 600 HOUSES ON WORSLEY GREENWAY

This morning, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has dismissed Peel Holdings' appeal against Salford City Council's refusal to allow the company to build up to 600 houses in the Broadoak area of the Worsley Greenway.

The Secretary of State agreed with the Inspector that "the proposals would impact negatively on the character and appearance of the Greenway". Noel Gaskell, from RAID, the community group that opposed the development, told the Salford Star "It shows what can be achieved when the general public put their minds to stopping developments that would cause huge problems to the residents."

ST LUKE'S CHURCH WEASTE AT RISK

The imposing Grade II listed St Luke's Church on Liverpool Street in Weaste is one of only eight buildings in the country to have been added to Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register 2018.

PEACOCK TAKES CENTRE STAGE AS ORDSALL COMMUNITY ARTS CELEBRATES 40 YEARS

The Ordsall Peacock, originally sited outside the old Ordsall High School before it closed in 1988, is to be permanently housed on public display in the area, after being reclaimed from Salford City College six years ago.

The Peacock is to be the centre of a special Lighting The Legend Parade on 9th November, which also celebrates 25 years of the area's lantern event, and an amazing forty years of Ordsall Community Arts.

The Saving Our Neighbourhood community group in Swinton has formally put Salford City Council and Bellway Homes on notice that it is considering legal action against them on behalf of almost a thousand residents.

Unbelievably, seven weeks after construction has commenced on the ultra controversial development of 241 houses at the old Swinton Sewage Works off Campbell Road, Salford Council has admitted that no contract has been signed so that enforcement action can be taken against Bellway, despite residents documenting over one hundred complaints.
