Another fantastic fightback by Salford City, clawing their way back from two goals down, was spoiled by a shocking referee's decision in injury time when a Clitheroe player, clearly a yard offside, was allowed to race clear of the Salford defence as the liner kept his flag down.

`Are you betting on the game?' sang the Salford fans in tribute to the Pakistan cricket team scandal…

No-one gave Salford City a chance against top of the table unbeaten Chorley but the Ammies brushed the Lancs big spenders back into their wallets in an FA Cup tie that had everything – a missed penalty, a sending off, a dodgy 'keeper, a last minute dramatic winner and, of course, a punch.

One of Salford's most iconic buildings is to be demolished under plans unveiled yesterday for the new Oasis Academy MediaCityUK high school at Salford Quays.

Central Salford Mission, also known as Salford Central United Reform Church (URC), was labelled "the most important building in Salford" by objectors at an original planning meeting for the school three years ago…

Steve Broomhead, Chief Executive of the North West Development Agency - which has championed gay rights and campaigned against homophobia over the past few years - has been caught texting a gay joke about Elton John.

The £196,000 a year NWDA chief has already received a formal warning for sending a `Paki' joke by text but this is the first time his gay joke text has come to light.

GREAT SALFORD SWIM SCANDAL

£50,000 FOR SALFORD QUAYS SWIMMING WHILE CHARGES IMPOSED AT LOCAL POOLS

As Salford Council re-imposes charges for old and young people at the city's swimming pools blaming government spending cuts, it's sponsoring the British Gas Great Salford Swim to the tune of £50,000 – the equivalent of 33,333 free swims for local kids.

Meanwhile, at Salford Quays where the Great Swim is to take place, local youngsters are subject to annual dispersal orders…
