SALFORD SHOPPERS GET FINED FOR SHORT STAY PARKING

"They're just trying it on...It's a racket..." car parker

Shoppers visiting Salford Precinct have told how they are being fined £100 for leaving their vehicles in the official G24 Ltd car parks. The company allows three hours free parking but people have been getting tickets even though they have stayed at the site for a less than an hour's total during the day.

Pensioner, Peter Barnes, was horrified when he received a parking fine in the post from G24 Ltd, the company that runs the `free' car parks at Salford Precinct.

Shoppers are allowed three hours free parking (with no return for an hour) on the car parks, and Peter's `Final Notice' letter carrying the £100 fine showed camera evidence of his car entering the car park at 11:03am and leaving at 4:10pm – five hours later.

What the photos didn't show was that he'd actually only stayed a short while during his first visit, then drove home and came back later for another short stay. Instead of maybe four images of his car coming and going within the allotted time, the letter only showed two images of his car entering the first time and then leaving after his last visit.

"I go to the Precinct on quite a regular basis, sometimes two or three times in a day" Peter explains "I drop my wife off, then I might go the chip shop and quite a few places but I don't stay for anywhere near three hours. And I don't return within the hour.

"To make you pay they've got to take you to court in front of a judge and they've got no chance because they would have to produce the recordings of the day, including showing the time in between" he adds "I think they are just trying it on...It's a racket."

The same thing also happened to Peter's friend, David Hartley, a few years ago and he believes that many shoppers might be going through the same experience, particularly in the run up to Christmas.

"My wife works on the Precinct so I dropped her off in the car park at 9am, drove straight out and picked her up about 4pm" he recalls "They should have had four images on their system but only showed me arriving at 9am and leaving at 4pm. I couldn't believe it.

"I wrote in and explained what they did wrong, and that I'd only been on there a maximum of two minutes, and got a standard letter back saying `We will not be pursuing this'" he adds "But there was nothing to pursue.

"They shouldn't be doing it" he explains "I do a lot of driving and a lot of parking, and if you're working it's a hassle writing in. They need to get the system right. The system's wrong. And it's not good for business. The Precinct is struggling for business and this will just drive more people away."

The Salford Star contacted G24 Ltd about the cases but the company wouldn't comment. Neither would the manageress of Salford Shopping Centre, although she did add that if Peter contacted them they would see what they could do.

@Mel. These tickets are governed by contract law and you have no contract with them. Watchdog, Martin lewis site, the mirror and many other sites all state that Private parking penalties are not enforceable. http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/millions-parking-tickets-illegal---5199090 There are only two reasons for bailiffs forcing entry, gas act(safety, not to fit a pre-payment meter), home repossession. Private bailiffs are dealing with civil matters. https://www.getoutofdebtfree.org gives good advice. The police are not to get involved in civil matters, so if they turn up, they are breaking the law if they assist the bailiffs in capacity.

With regards to them taking people to court. If you don't challenge the initial 'fine' notice and the company issues a County Court claim, you MUST challenge the claim. Unchallenged claims are upheld by the court but if you challenge it, the company must provide evidence (including the full day's camera footage) that you overstayed.

This has been happening for years, there are lots of posts about it on consumer forums. Always the same ploy, saying the vehicle had been there all day when it was separate visits. It's okay saying people should educate themselves, but if they've never come across this scam before, it's totally understandable that people would fall for it. It's the same with bailiff letters threatening forced entry to your home, most people aren't aware that there are limited and specific circumstances under which anyone can forcibly enter your property.

Earlier this year I got the same treatment on the ASDA car park at Swinton. I'd popped on earlier in the day and returned a few hours later. So was clocked going on and off 4 hours apart. Like a fool I paid it cos I didn't want the hassle.

How many people have had the same thing happened and just paid up? It is disgusting that a firm like this is ripping people of, and getting way with it.

This happened to me a few months ago. They said I had been there all day when I had entered the car park for two minutes in the morning and returned for 15 minutes around 5 o'clock. When I challenged them, they also said 'we will not be pursuing this'. No explanation or apology either. Don't let this company fleece you, definitely challenge them if this happens to you.

Ignore the people that say private parking tickets are unenforceable!! I got taken to court after putting the wrong Reg number into the ticket machine, ignored 2 letters, and ended up with CCJ for £225! Advice is appeal it, but if they refuse pay up, they do take you to court! B@st@rds!!

These fines from private companies do not need to be paid. There are many groups on facebook which tell you how to avoid paying. There was even an article on watchdog, where a solicitor said, if you get a ticket from a private parking company just ignore it there is nothing they can do.

NO need to pay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3J-Xl6rSlk they are not enforceable. This sort of thing will keep happening while people do not educate themselves to the amount of fraud and corruption being committed by corporations/companies

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
