Salford's confirmed coronavirus cases have more than doubled in the last few days, from four to nine, but this is still relatively low compared to the south where Hampshire is reporting 87 cases and Southwark 82.
Manchester has the highest number of confirmed cases in Greater Manchester with 21, with Tameside and Oldham next on 14, Trafford and Stockport on 13, followed by Bolton and Rochdale with nine, and Bury with eight. Wigan has the lowest with four cases.
Meanwhile all schools in Salford will be closed from today, with many schools stating that they will contact students classed as vulnerable to make arrangements. Key workers are being asked to contact the schools in many instances to request a place for their children from Monday. If in doubt parents are asked to contact their child's school.
Salford City Council also has a 'Salford Assist' scheme offering "short-term support to people who can't meet their own or family's basic needs because of a crisis, emergency or disaster...
"Support is discretionary but could include help with baby items, essential furniture, gas and electricity or necessary documents for people who are homeless. Salford Assist can also signpost to debt, benefits and affordable energy advice..." For more details click here...
Salford Council is continuing with what it calls 'essential' meetings, including yesterday's planning panel where just five councillors attended (see here). Meanwhile, next week, Salford City Council's Cabinet will be meeting with only one item on the agenda at the moment...an 'essential' update on the RHS Bridgewater Garden in Worsley.
At this meeting, Salford councillors will learn that, for its £19million investment in the Garden, 13 Salford people currently have jobs there out of forty people. Three management positions out of six will also be going to Salford residents. Over the next few months, the Garden report adds, a further fifty staff will be recruited and, 'As such it is anticipated that as many as 50% of RHS staff at opening on 30 July 2020 could be Salford residents...'
