Eccles resident, Jonathan Kay, has stripped off to feature as Mr March in a new nude calendar for 2015 to help raise funds and make people aware of the neurological disorder ataxia.

Few people are aware of the condition which affects ten thousand adults and 2,500 children in the UK, and the Ataxia Laid Bare calendar is available at £9.99 to help find a cure and aid people with ataxia.

Don't look Ethel...but it was too late – she'd already been ballooned....

Jonathan Kay, from Eccles, is currently starring, stark naked, as Mr March, in an Ataxia Laid Bare calendar for 2015, alongside another eleven sufferers of the rare ataxia condition for which there is little or no cure.

Ataxia is the name given to a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination and speech, it affects ten thousand adults and 2,500 children in the UK, and few people are aware of the condition. Now the calendar hopes to change that, as well as raising much needed funds to help find a cure and aid people with ataxia.

Sam Merchant wanted to use the calendar to show twelve different symptoms of ataxia in a way people would remember...

"Some symptoms, such as heart disease with Friedreich's ataxia are better-known than others" says Sam "Others, like hearing impairment, are less well known. The Ataxia Laid Bare calendar shows a different symptom each month, with different models choosing a symptom that personally affects them. Together, the pictures starkly illustrate the reality of ataxia."

"Compared with some of the symptoms of ataxia, posing naked was nothing" he adds "Ataxia plays a major role in my life; it changes a lot of things for me. It affects where I live, the people I hang out with, what I do with my time; everything really. So I hope the nude calendar will raise awareness and a bit of money. I hope it will make a lot of people aware of the condition who didn't know about it before."

Mr March, or Jonathan Kay, was only too pleased to don The Origin of Species, a balloon and nowt else to help the cause...

You can buy Ataxia Laid Bare for £9.99 + p&p from www.ataxia.org.uk, via www.ebay.co.uk, by emailing fundraising@ataxia.org.uk or by calling 020 7582 1444.

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
