Currently, an Accrington man, Michael Hilton, is on remand in prison and has been in prison for over four months - for refusing to be evicted by bailiffs, after his landlord was given possession as a result of Bedroom Tax-related arrears of a mere £300. His case won't be heard until 9th October.
In the meantime, campaigners are still fighting the hated tax and Bolton Against Bedroom Tax has organised a march next Saturday, 4th October from 11am meeting in Bolton Town Square near the Town Hall.
The fight against the Tax has been reinvigorated following the Labour Party's planned Mansion Tax for the wealthy who own homes worth more than £2million and Prime Minister David Cameron's determination to oppose it.
Today, the Labour Party released figures showing that the owner of a £140million penthouse in London pays £1,353 a year in Council Tax just 0.001% of the home's value; while the average person pays £1,114 for the (London!) average home valued at £284,000 or 0.39%.
It definitely is one rule for the rich and one for the poor.
On the Bolton Against the Bedroom Tax facebook site, one mum wrote why she is going to attend the march next week...
"I will be there along with my children because it's the children who we are fighting for - our children are our future, and it's our children's bedrooms that these arseholes are taking. Come on people, come and fight for a future...come and fight for our children!"
