Salford has 9 new coronavirus cases, up from the previous day's 7, bringing the cumulative total of cases to 23,403. The seven day average of cases in Salford is now 85, down from 87, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 32.8, down from 33.6.
Elsewhere in Greater Manchester the seven day average of cases in Bury is 41 (same), with a seven day rate per 100,000 population of 21.5 (same); Bolton 346 (up from 288), with a rate of 120.3 (up from 100.2); Manchester 198 (up from 193), with a rate of 35.8 (up from 34.9), and Oldham 67 (up from 64), with a rate of 28.3 (up from 27).
Rochdale has a seven day average of cases of 93 (up from 85), with a seven day rate of 41.8 (up from 38.2); Stockport 81 (down from 82), with a rate of 27.6 (down from 27.9); Tameside 49 (up from 46), with a rate of 21.6 (up from 20.3); Trafford 87 (down from 100), with a rate of 36.7 (down from 42.1); and Wigan 80 (up from 79), with a rate of 24.3 (up from 24).
There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.
Meanwhile, in celebration of people being able to travel to friends and family once again or plan a UK break, National Express has launched a range of free limited-edition travel sweets with flavours inspired by 'favourite dishes associated with British locations'...
For Greater Manchester, the sweet is a Salford Eccles Cake but for other places it's fish and chips flavoured sweets (Devon, Brighton, Margate, Scarborough and Blackpool), curry flavour (Birmingham), Cornish pasty (Cornwall), pork pie (Leicestershire) and Wensleydale cheese and cranberry (Yorkshire).
"We suspended all services for eleven weeks at the beginning of the year so we're delighted to now be back on the road with full measures in place to ensure passenger comfort and safety" says Chris Hardy, Managing Director of National Express UK Coach
"As the UK's largest coach operator, we've always been part of seeing friends and family, going to events, on day trips and holidays" he adds "We wanted to mark helping make this happen again in a fun way. Eccles cake and fish and chips might not be the kind of flavours anyone would expect to taste in boiled sweet form, but each confectionary celebrates the wonderful diversity of the UK. We hope the tastes will take people to a place they've missed and can now happily and safely return to with National Express."
The limited-edition sweets, which are vegetarian and gluten free, are not for sale but are to be given away via a random prize draw with details on National Express social media channels. You just have to fill out a form and submit it by 16th May for a chance to get the sweets ..
