SALFORD HAS LOWEST TURNOUT IN GREATER MANCHESTER MAYOR ELECTION

Star date: 8th May 2021 JUST 28.77% OF SALFORD ELECTORATE VOTE IN GM MAYOR ELECTION Salford had the lowest turnout in Greater Manchester for the Greater Manchester Mayor Election, with just 28.77%, or 53,522 verified ballot papers out of an electorate of 186,058. Trafford had the highest turnout with 44.88%, followed by Bury with 40.82%. The results of the GM Mayor Election and the election for Salford City Mayor will be announced later today. Salford politicians should really be looking in the mirror this morning as the city's low turnout in all three local elections reflects apathy and disillusionment on a grand scale. Yesterday, the turnout at the local election for council seats was 28%, with Little Hulton registering a turnout of just 19.53%. In the election for Greater Manchester Mayor, Salford had a turnout of just 28.77%, or 53,522 verified ballot papers out of an electorate of 186,058, the lowest in the region. | @ Sylvia Pankhurst: In Russia and China you can’t just ignore the lockdown rules. In the UK there’s people refusing to wear masks and attending protests. It’s far from draconian. However I agree Patel’s bill is not helpful at all. And it’s a 2 party state, Labour and Tory, a vote for either is a vote for the status quo, especially in the last 50 years. I usually spoil my vote as protest at the system, so I’m recognising the sacrifice of those who died but dissatisfied with the system and lack of real choice and ability to change. So I’m endorsing the democratic idea but not the political and voting system we have. As I said, I “usually spoil my vote”, this time I voted for actual candidates, they didn’t gain power as Labour and Tories soak up the votes as always and left me feeling disenfranchised. In all my years of voting I’ve never got the representation I’ve wanted, not once, so you can see why I spoil my vote and feel like the only thing that happens is the maintaining of the status quo. |

| this country is heading for a one party state thats not the status quo if patels police bill passes you will lose the right to even small protest on any issue if a copper deems you are annoying somebody by your activity this country since 1979 as changed from a decent caring country which had a decent welfare state a better nhs well paid secure employment to a country of dog eat dog devils advocate the gaining of the vote was about representation and working people had to fight a one party whig and tory state and a monarchy to get that vote they did and they won and the mass of working people can do it again and that terrifies the ruling class so they are bringing out draconian anti democratic laws worthy of russia and china and even worse despotic countries who the tory bbc keeps telling us are evil dictatorships kill the bill and save the right to vote no id at the polling booth we have managed without such nonsense for years and the tories are lying when they say it is to combat electoral fraud in elections is tiny 0 .0 .1 per cent voting is not the only way to change things but you must vote and if you do not that is taken as a sign of accepting the status quo. |

| Just playing Devil’s advocate here, but it isn’t it more insulting to those who died that the votes they fought and died for only guarantee us the right to “complain” and the preservation of the status quo? The only people’s votes that matter are those with the most money and influence, we the people, don’t dictate government policy, the super rich and influential do. From large Corps to bankers and even unions, they advise government and dictate policy, do they not? |

| small point made a large point correct to all the moaners who did not bother to vote them being to clever or to lazy you miss the principle of voting in your ignorance the vote was not given it had to be fought for through struggle and the price for the many people who stood up and fought for it was death perhaps if all the cant be bothered gang put on the ballot paper which you are entitled to do none of the above keep the writing in the box and it is counted as a vote you might change the world and be elected as the party of none above but whatever the outcome you would acknowledge the sacrifice others made so you could have the right to participate and make a point. |

| All council seats were up for grabs. If you wanted the incumbents out - why didn't you put your crosses in the box and make your views known? Detractors of the incumbents had no better time to show their local elected councillors the door. |

| Hi Wrote, I am fully aware what Politics is and all about thank you. Personally, I don't trust any politician they are all full of broken promises and for themselves. As for Salford Mayor's re-election, it's just the same poo, different day. He used Buile Hill Mansion in his campaign when he was approached by a peed off Salford citizen let's see if he follows through his restoration statement he guaranteed if he got re-elected. Bearing in mind it's been left to rot for the past 20 years. Salford has been under Labour Council control for 47-48 years would love to know what it is they do and have previously done for the People of Salford. I always vote but never will I vote labour when they have done nothing for the City of Salford or the people that live here. |

| Its not because people are ignorant and lazy. Its because they dont see the point when its obvious Labour will win because their councillors swamp every ward in Salford. It's unfair when one party outweighs all others leaving people little choice. Whether people vote or not no of us get a voice. |

| I was thinking back
When I first noticed polotics
Growing up in the Regent Rd area,in the fifties,When the cars came round the street,with a loud speaker on the top urging people to vote.A time not long since men and women had just returned all thought some tragically did not from fighting a war for the rest of to use that cherished posetion the vote,and the honour in later years casting my vote.To see now people for what ever reason can't be bothered.what are the reasons for this I ask,people tell me they are all the same, a proven liar running one party and a nearly man the other it goes deeper than that I suspect and don't have the answer, but what I would do I would put on the ballot paper none of the above,and make it law you had to go and vote, in the end do we deserve what we get. |
