With all seats now declared, the Labour Party is the big winner once again in the Salford local election. The party was expected to lose seats in Higher Irlam area with the Green Belt a huge issue there, but the boundary change to join with Peel Green saw sitting councillor and Core Independent Darren Goulden lose his seat as Labour took all three seats.
The only other slight shock was the LibDems taking a seat in Kersal and Broughton Park which the Conservatives expected to take from Labour, while in Cadishead and Lower Irlam the Core Independent was beaten by just six votes, and in Walkden South the Conservative candidate was also beaten by six votes. In Worsley and Westwood Park the Labour Party took a seat expected to go to the Conservatives.

In the new Quays ward, Labour got another clean sweep, with Ann-Marie Humphreys topping the poll with 959 votes, followed by Jake Rowland with 723 votes and Phil Tresadern with 639 votes. The nearest challenger was Alex Warren for the LibDems with 531 votes. Turnout was 27.39%.
In Walkden North, Labour again won all three seats, with Adrian Brocklehurst coming first with 1,365 votes, followed by Sammie Bellamy with 1,106 votes and Jack Youd with 875 votes. Nearest challenger was the Conservative's Craig Thompson with 501 votes. Turnout was 23.39%.
In Pendleton and Charlestown it was the same story, with Michele Barnes coming top of the poll with 1,279 votes for Labour, followed by Wilson Nkurunziza with 1,028 votes and John Warmisham with 943 votes. The nearest challenger was Andrew Nadin for the Green Party with 430 votes. Turnout was 21.63%.
In Higher Irlam and Peel Green, the Labour Party took all three seats, with Tracy Kelly polling 1,320 votes, followed by Roger Jones with 1,251 votes and Peter Taylor with 1,070 votes. Nearest challenger was sitting councillor Darren Goulden with 599 votes who lost his seat. Turnout was 25.86%.
In the Barton and Winton ward, Labour again took all three seats with Paula Boshell coming top with 1,642 votes, followed by David Lancaster with 1,410 votes and John Mullen with 1,305 votes. The nearest challenger was Jacob Barden with 496 votes for the Conservative Party. Turnout was 25.35%.
In Little Hulton, Labour again topped the poll with Kate Lewis getting 1,115 votes followed by Rob Sharpe with 905 votes and Colette Weir with 709 votes. Nearest challenger was Dorothy Chapman for the Conservatives with 438 votes. Turnout was 19.52%.
In Cadishead and Lower Irlam, Labour took all three seats with Lewis Nelson topping the poll with 1,829 votes, followed by Hannah Robinson-Smith with 1,199 votes and Joan Walsh with 1,052. The nearest challenger was Dave Pike for the Core Independents, with 1,046 votes. Turnout was 30.63%.
In Boothstown and Ellenbrook the Conservatives held onto their three seats with Bob Clarke topping the poll with 2,205 votes, followed by Darren Ward with 1,797 votes and Les Turner with 1,345 votes. The nearest challenger was Teresa Pepper with 1,257 votes for Labour. Turnout was 39.84%.
In Walkden South, the Labour Party took all three seats, with Joshua Brooks polling 1,703 votes, Margaret Morris 1,347 votes, and Irfan Syed polling 1,066 votes. The nearest challenger was Lewis Croden with 1,060 votes for the Conservatives. Turnout was 35.47%.
In Worsley and Westwood Park, Karen Garrido topped the poll with 1,440 votes for the Conservatives with Robin Garrido coming second with 1,224 votes for the Conservatives. Tony Davies took the third seat for the Labour Party with 1,220 votes. The nearest challenger was Adam Kealey who got 1,082 votes for the Conservatives. Turnout was 35.05%.
The new make up of Salford City Council is now Labour Party – 52 seats, Conservative Party 7 seats and LibDems 1 seat. The turnout was 28%.
