The Agecroft miners' memorial was erected in 2013, and is now an annual gathering spot to remember those pitmen who died working underground to produce the nation's coal.
In a prelude to Wednesday's International Workers Memorial Day, ex-miners and members of the community gathered this afternoon to hear the names of those who perished in the Salford pits and observed a minute's silence.
"We're here today to remember the dead and to basically say to people in the future that you are here because of coal" explained Paul Kelly, of the Irwell Valley Miners Project and Salford TUC.
"The men who worked in Salford's pits, in Agecroft, Pendleton...made your life what it is today and they should be greatly remembered, greatly respected, and we will be here every year for those men's memories and the young boys who were left underground without a proper burial."
On International Workers Memorial Day itself, Wednesday 28th April, there will be an online event from 11:55am with speakers including Salford and Eccles MP Rebecca Long Bailey, and Salford City UNISON's Ameen Hadi.
This years theme is the Fundamental Right to Safe and Healthy Work, and the event chaired by Lynn Collins the North West TUC Regional Secretary, will also include speakers Ian Hodson BFAWU President, Rob Rayner GMAVSG, and a Thompsons Solicitors speaker.
