LONG BAILEY ASKS FOR SERIOUS FRAUD OFFICE TO BE BROUGHT IN OVER SWINTON SALE

Salford and Eccles MP Rebecca Long Bailey has written to the Attorney General asking for the Serious Fraud Office to be brought in to look at financial issues at Swinton Park Golf and Country Club.

"I am extremely concerned about this matter given the contents of the documents I have seen and the conversations I have had with my constituents" she states.

The fate of Swinton Park Golf and Country Club took another turn this week when Salford and Eccles MP Rebecca Long Bailey wrote to the Attorney General, Michael Ellis MP, asking for the Serious Fraud Office to be brought in.

The Club was bought by some members for £1.3million in 2017, who have since tried to re-sell the site to an array of house builders for up to £30million.* The Salford MP writes that legal issues have been raised about the resale of the club so soon after its acquisition.

The case was first brought to the attention of the Serious Fraud Office in 2019, when Bellway Homes were looking to purchase the site, but the Office didn't think the issues were complex enough for it to be involved.

Now, however, Long Bailey writes that with the "potential value of the site to a housing developer being significantly higher than the £20million purchase price being quoted" the serious Fraud Office should be brought in to "fully understand the situation and what can be done to resolve it..."

She concludes: "I am extremely concerned about this matter given the contents of the documents I have seen and the conversations I have had with my constituents..."

Meanwhile, the Save Swinton Park Committee is currently working with a number of minority shareholders who do not wish Swinton Park to be sold for housing development.

"Kennedys Solicitors are assisting them with attempts to prevent the enforced sale of all their shares in the club, by the majority shareholder and the Board of Directors" says a spokesperson for the campaign "We have previously asked for help to fund legal fees for such a challenge and a Gofundme account has been created for this purpose. Without help such a challenge will not be possible, so can we thank those who have donated to date and ask those who haven't to contribute..."

Hows about Rebecca Wrong-Daily calling in the fraud squad over the old Crescent Police Station development ??? ... ahh but she won't do that as she has her snout in the same trough... I'd be embarrassed to vote labour in Salford.

Did another former labour politician mention a planning fraud of the decade a short while back? Perhaps the boys in blue from the serious fraud office might like to take a look at that while their up here? That one involved millions as well.

Like the great majority of Salford residents, I do not have the slightest interest in bloody golf clubs. So how come , with all the misery of all the wrongs going on in our city, story after story, written about here in this journal, Miss Becky decides to get up off her fat bottom, up onto her high horse, to champion the cause of one group of golfers against another. Why does she put the golf playing fraternity before the poor people in them disastrous blocks on the precinct. She has not gone on record saying anything to help them has she? She is just trying to rally a few labour votes in the posh areas round where that golf club is,swinton south ,walkden south, monton etc.

Fraud a serious issue if proven, easy to define sad there seems to be a blight at present looking at Labours trouble in Liverpool, lets hope this is not a stunt taking time away from officers with limited resources, No one wishes to see houses on this site but to the layman from buying to selling we are all out to make money and with the blank cheques housing builders have the figures must be hard to turn down.Sad also with Mayor Dennets robust letter to residents over what can be built he understands full well any plan with merit as to be listened to.Lets hope we are not witnessing a political game.

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
