CHARGED RENT FOR ACCOMMODATION STUDENTS AREN'T USING

Salford has 74 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 86, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 243, down from 261.6. There have been two new virus-related deaths at Salford Royal Hospital.

Meanwhile students at Salford University living in the Tramways Accommodation on Frederick Road have started a petition to have their rent frozen or rebated as they are paying full rent without living there.

Salford has 74 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 86, bringing the cumulative total to 20,748. The seven day average of cases in Salford has decreased to 629, down from 677, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 243, down from 261.6.

Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, the seven day average of cases in Bury is 402 (up from 386), with a seven day rate per 100,000 population of 210.5 (up from 202.1); Bolton 830 (down from 832), with a rate of 288.6 (down from 289.3); Manchester 1,312 (down from 1,347), with a rate of 237.3 (down from 243.6); and Oldham 500 (up from 487), with a rate of 210.9 (up from 205.4).
 
Rochdale has a seven day average of cases of 491 (down from 517), with a seven day rate of 220.8 (down from 232.5); Stockport 614 (down from 631), with a rate of 209.3 (down from 215); Tameside 406 (down from 416), with a rate of 179.3 (down from 183.7); Trafford 399 (down from 423), with a rate of 168.1 (down from 178.2); and Wigan 661 (down from 692), with a rate of 201.1 (down from 210.6).

Meanwhile, Salford University students 'living' in the Tramways Accommodation on the corner of Frederick Road have started a petition as they are paying full rent without actually living there due to the lockdown...

"We as a University have just received an email to say that we will most likely not be returning to campus for classes until April, after the Easter Holidays" writes student Lucy Hill "In the meantime, we are still being charged for rent for accommodation that we are not living in.

"The University has set up a Covid Relief Fund but it is only helping a set number of people living in Private Accommodation and not the vast majority" she adds "Please help us campaign to get us released from our contracts without having to pay full rent, or at least freeze our rent for the time being until it is safe to return to campus. This should not be allowed to happen and many students are now going on a rent strike as a result."
