WALKDEN STATION PARK AND RIDE GETS GO AHEAD

Star date: 29th January 2021 OVER 100 PARK N RIDE PLACES AS TRAIN COMMUTING ENCOURAGED Salford City Council has given planning permission for a new park and ride facility off Chestnut Avenue near Walkden Station. It will provide over one hundred parking spaces, four motorcycle bays and cycle storage. "Making public transport more accessible and appealing is vital if we're serious about reducing congestion on our roads, which is why park and ride schemes like this one are so important" says Councillor Mark Aldred, Chair of the Greater Manchester Transport Committee. Walkden is to get a new park and ride facility off Chestnut Avenue, near the Train Station, after Salford Council passed planning permission this week. It will provide over one hundred parking spaces, four motorcycle bays and cycle storage, plus electric vehicle charging points, new lighting and CCTV. "Making public transport more accessible and appealing is vital if we're serious about reducing congestion on our roads, which is why park and ride schemes like this one are so important" says Councillor Mark Aldred, Chair of the Greater Manchester Transport Committee. "By getting people out of their vehicles and onto public transport – even if it's only for part of their journey – we can help alleviate traffic congestion and reduce harmful emissions that are damaging the quality of our air" he adds "Over the next twelve months, thanks to this scheme, the recently opened park and ride site on the Trafford Park Line and extensions to Radcliffe and Whitefield that are due to get underway in the summer, we'll have delivered more than seven hundred extra park and ride spaces to key transport hubs." Work is expected to start on the scheme in the summer.

Trouble is,regular labour voters like you cannot admit you have been conned. | To the watcher,I can only say That I am in no way criticizing the people who do these low paid jobs, only the jobs themselves. Engineering jobs are starting to come back to the UK, but only very slowly. All these construction sites you see round here, I don't know anyone who works on them. all my pals have jobs though,but not round here.Look at the middlewood locks housing scheme. I read a salford council report on the web that proudly states second phase of 500 odd units have been sold to a single PRC company. (This means private rental Company). rents 250 odd quid a week for a two bed flat. Young people are being screwed, they are being conned into thinking this is the right thing to do.Why don't our council work with different people? They could train our young people to build houses,work the balls off them for a couple of years,and pay them in houses. Salford council makes it easy for these greedy speculators , many of who give tons of money to the Tory party. Labour does not give 2 hoots about working class Salford kids, it knows their votes are in the bag, they are stupid enough to vote labour just like their parents did.What labour is after, is the new army of expensive private renters. These people must have good jobs, otherwise they could not afford the rent. Therefore you can assume they are more intellegent and better educated to get these jobs. When the penny drops with this lot that they have been done, you will have a whole army of smart Labour activists, screaming for lefty socialist ideas. After loosing Scotland, Labour needs a lot of these swing type voters to win a general election, and thats all they think about. I remember December2019. All the Labour lot telling us we "all had to get behind Jezza". None of them are saying that now. They are all up smarmy starmys arse these days. Two faced rats the lot of them. |

| Hey Bob,
Myopic and misogynistist in the one one sentence ! Admittedly some of the jobs are a case of there but for fortune and being glad that I don't have to do them, nevertheless somebody has to do them. Toilet cleaning, I've done it , in order to keep the family together during the dark days of Thatcher/ majorism. These engineering apprenticeships you so fondly talk off, I remember many contemporaries not finishing them as the big engineering firms went under from the mid seventies onwards. These are the people who would take the jobs you are so disparaging of. It's not right but it is life as we know it. Try reading " Love on the dole", it's still relevant. All those apprentices let go as they are coming out of their time because a new apprentice is cheaper.
I quite agree that Salford Council are not fit for purpose being overly fond of vanity projects. And yes they do need a bloody nose at the ballet box. But on our citizens past record it will be a cold day in hell before that happens. |

| Yes Paul, I am cynical about the jobs offered to our young people. I think it a total waste for our young people to work in dead end coffee shops and burger bars. While I accept that bogs need to be cleaned out, that is a job for old women. Our young people need well paid jobs in construction, engineering, medical etc fields. And yes, I do blame the council, they could do a lot to help our young but they don't. Our council are just not of the real world. How many of this lot have proper jobs? Its not like years ago, most of them on the council then were all of sound mind.There were loads of them from engineering backgrounds and had a bit of nous about them. Lets just hope the people of Salford see sense at the big election. The shit hitting the fan should help them get rid of their myopia. |

| Very cynical very negative bob not like you and all jobs are worthwhile even bog cleaners if people did not clean them we would suffer from viruses and disease and of course i am not going to send people in to Manchester if you read the post i am suggesting that for the very many without cars it would offer a better alternative to being stuck on a bus or stuck behind cars by having a better train service for all so yes they can even go to work in a coffee shop or whatever other jobs they need to do to provide a living for themselves or families.And of course we know you like to blame Salford council for all the ills of the world like all the other radicals is that your beef here. |

| All these commuter workers that Paul is going to send into Manchester centre. What sort of work are they going to do when they get there? Coffee shop workers selling expensive coffee to people with more money than sense? Burger bar workers? Bog cleaners? Would it not be a better bet to get our young workers into proper jobs like construction and engineering? |

| This is good news i also hear that Swinton station is to be refurbished and lifts are to be fitted for disabled access the station is in a mess at the moment and i noticed subsidence last time i caught the train a few weeks ago the line should be converted to a tram line with spurs off it to Leigh for a start reopen irlam oth height and Pendlbury stations 10 mins in to Victoria station. Build a park and ride at Clifton junction build another station at whit lane/pendleton 10 mins Victoria station a win win for commuters and the local population. |

| A brilliant money making racket to tax the better off from Worsley who have to commute to central Manchester each day, and it all fits in with their strategy. They put bus lanes all over the place ,narrow the roads like on the Crescent,etc.all to make going into Manchester each day a pain in the arse for motorists. What they are doing is moving city centre car parking that they do not make money from to places where they do make money from because they own the car parks. No doubt they got grants to pay for all this. 100 cars not going into town each day will not make much difference to pollution. What will happen here is some rich lawyer from worsley will nip accross the lancs,stick his motor in the car park and jump on the train. The tenner a day he pays for parking will now go to the council instead of manchester. car park owners. On a season ticket, I bet its about 40 quid a week, not much more than the fuel you would use in traffic. Our professional type commuter, will probably save about an hour each day of his time though, and the council will be pleased because they will make a third of a million bunce each year from it. Its all a racket,but it wont catch me. |
