Salford residents living near the River Irwell in Lower Kersal, Charlestown and Lower Broughton are on flood alert this afternoon, with the water levels continuing to rise due to Storm Cristoph.
The river level at 1:15pm was measured at 3.66metres, below the last record flood level of around 5.8metres. The flood basin on Littleton Road in Lower Kersal/Charlestown is now closed to the public, although there is no flooding on the plain, while the new wetlands flood basin is expected to soak up much of the water later on when the river levels are expected to increase.
