CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT WINS SAVE THE BILLIONAIRES SALFORD STAR AWARD

Star date: 10th January 2021

JOHNSON AND TORIES TAKE CORONAVIRUS CAKE

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 14th annual Salford Star Mary Burns Awards, which are given out to honour the most deserving individuals and organisations in the city for their stupid statements, dodgy dealings and iffy activities over the past twelve months.

With this being a mad, chaotic coronavirus year, the judges have introduced some special categories, the first being the Save The Billionaires Award. Luckily, Salford MP, Barbara Keeley, has re-tweeted forty reasons why the Tories should win this, courtesy of Justin Madders MP. So ladies and gentlemen, stick a chicken up your nose etc for the winner...

Save The Billionaires Award

Goes to...

Boris Johnson and the Conservative Government

Ladies and gentlemen, what a year it's been for coronavirus cock ups and handing obscene amounts of money to private companies who don't know what they are doing.

The judges decided long ago to hand the Save The Billionaires Salford Star Mary Burns Award to Boris Johnson and the Conservative Government, but couldn't quite list all the zillions of reasons for it. Then, luckily, yesterday Worsley and Eccles South MP, Barbara Keeley, re-tweeted an excellent post by Justin Madders MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, which kind of summed it all up.

So, ladies and gentlemen, let us hand over the citation to Mr Madders (who we've never heard of before yesterday) to give "a reminder of some of the failings in the past 12 months that have led to so many infections and deaths..."

1. The PM missed 5 cobra meetings at start
2. The Government ignored warnings about pandemic preparations
3. They allowed ppe stockpiles to run down
4. Delayed lockdown number one
5. Delayed lockdown number two
6. Delayed lockdown number three
7. Ignored Sage advice on a circuit break lockdown for 6 weeks
8. Allowed people to enter the UK without checks
9. Stopped contract tracing in March
10. Discharged people into care homes without testing
11. Allowed ppe to be exported
12. Ignored WHO advice to "test test test"
13. Couldn't track how many people were being tested each day
14. Didn't require private testing companies to report results to local councils
15. Created an app that notification to self isolate from didn't count for claiming a self isolation payment
16. Recommended face coverings in May but didn't make it compulsory until July 17. Didn't join cross EU ppe procurement
18. Handed contact tracing to private companies with no record
19. Handed ppe contracts to companies with no record
20. Failed to support people to self isolate
21. Brought in scheme of support for self isolation that only 1 in 8 people qualify for
22. Failed to increase testing capacity when known return of schools and workplaces would see increase in demand
23. Introduced a tiers system that didn't work
24. Introduced a tiers system experts said wouldn't work
25. Introduced another tiers system that didn't work
26. Created new tiers that didn't work because tiers system didn't work
27. Had no plan to get areas out of higher tiers
28. Sent people 100s of miles to get a test
29. Missed 1000's of new cases because the spreadsheet was full
30. Spent £670k on PR consultants for the vaccines taskforce
31. Facilitated mass gatherings of people by shutting all pubs at 10pm
32. Delayed rollout of routine testing for care home staff
33. Gave contracts to companies to provide PPE that didn't provide any
34. Set up 119 hotline that missed 1000's of calls
35. Signed £10b worth of contracts on covid procurement without following usual rules
36. Refused to change the Xmas rules because it was "too late" to do so only to do it 3 days later anyway
37. Said it was safe to return to school only to close them the next day
38. Didnt give police resources to enforce new rules
39. Created a scheme to help hospitality which helped the virus
40. Overpromised and undelivered every step of the way...This is a non-exhaustive list

Ladies and gentlemen, what more is there to say? Probably lots but, hey, let's just stick a deckchair up our nose and wave a chicken in the air for the winner of the 2020 Salford Star Mary Burns Save The Billionaires Award...

Boris Johnson and the Conservative Government!!!

From Alice....I agree with your observations. No party is without fault. I try to be independent in my judgement. Whereas I may find fault with the Tories at present I also think Labour is currently a bit vague and nondescript. I hope I am looking for a moral, intelligent and just approach to the way we run our politics. Things are too serious and dangerous to make mistakes . We need to use the very best of brains without bigotry, greed or stupidity. We can see what happened to USA when the latter dominates. Thanks for your observations. ...weekend reply.

Post script yo Tony Blair became a middle east peace envoy making millions of pounds in the process and owns many properties all over the UK Cambell makes a living going on talk shows Prescot lives in the house of lords so he can collect his signing on fee brown retired to the pulpit and Saddam was hung after a show trial in Texas USA arranged by George Bush Iraq is now a wrecked country along with LIBYA but that is another story I would have liked the conservative party to have received an award for being the most honest to god party thats never ever done nothing wrong on this planet even though they have been in power since 1979 the not us guv award and so to bed.

The last labour government was in 1945 its been down hill ever since can any body seriously say that bliars labour were a labour party of any use to working people i would suggest the only good thing to come out of it was sure start.Thatcher the war criminal had a son he was called tony blair and he continued every policy that mummy Maggie wanted to see continued privatisation privatisation privatisation when elected things can only get better well it did for the likes of Richard Branson the richest 1 per cent and the labour luvvies as for pensioners they had a massive increase of 50 pence per week ofF Gordon Brown who possessed a bottomless money for war chest and who can forget the tour of johnny 2 jags prescot the sell out clause 4 tour what a belter the man who sold out his principles if he had any for a grace and favour Berkshire house erm shared with his secretary erm who also ended up being a lord on 400 quid a day just to sign on. Now tony yearned to be a war criminal however he did not need re electing like mummy thatcher who ordered the Falklands war and was re elected on a wave of jingoistic patriotism little tony with the help of the spin doctor doctor goebbels/sorry Alistair Cambell compiled a dodgy dossier accusing Saddam Hussein of being the new Hitler who was about to launch missile strikes on Britain and would destroy our little island in 1 hour Saddam was the 20th new Hitler since 1945 by the way so yo Blair teamed up with MR George Bush junior that is cos his dad had also had a little war with Saddam Hussien George bush senior little George had to have a bigger war so along with yo Blair they set iraq on fire MR saddams country invaded what was left and robbed the massive reserves of oil from the Iraqi people this cost the lives of an estimated million Iraqis and young British and American soldiers MR Blair MR Cambell and MR Bush of course took no part in the fighting the conservative party fully supported the war well they would Tony Blair was Margrets son and heir one of there own want an idea what would be the policies of a real labour party have a look at the Corbyn labour party manifesto from 2019 a manifesto for working people peace and progress.

I am sure labour would have made just as big a balls of it as well.To be fair, this virus is a medical problem, not an economic or political one.You cannot expect politicians minds to be able to cope with it.Even the finest medical and scientific minds from places such as Oxford and Cambridge are at loggerheads with each other about what to do. What the government should have had in place was some sort of special scientific/medical team in place for such emergencies, who are tasked to sort out the best solution. The idea would be, that the government would have to follow the advice of this emergency committee.I am not saying they would have got it right, but at least the government would have someone else to lay the blame on if it went wrong or if un popular measures had to be taken. You know what I mean, just like they used to blame it all on Brussels and the EEC. Once upon a time politicians knew how to cover their own arses. They are too thick now.

neither of the leaders of our main political parties are any great shakes -- but please before you criticise the Tories - remember that the last labour government invented ficticious weapons of mass destruction, lied to the UN Security Council and led us into an illegal war - the after effects of which are still being felt today in a destabilised middle east. A simple snipers bullet (or a princess diana style car crash) would have solved the problem without having an illegal war that cost billions of $$ and millions of lives. Labour eh ? just as bent as the rest.

Here’s another failure. Promised equipment to help children cope with distance learning. There are still many, many children without computers, struggling to do lessons on parents phone. And another: those over 80s, with underlying illnesses, to get vaccinations soon.....many still waiting. Not the fault of NHS but Gov which still keeps it short of funds and logistics of vaccine delivery inadequate. Don’t forget that it still pays out billions to keep unnecessary atomic submarines going, whilst a tiny tiny virus can knock out the world. Plus sells weapons to Saudi Arabia to use against Yemen’s innocent children. Priorities are based on profit motive not human need. And now the BEES are under threat! That is serious. Think why other countries are managing better!!

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
