During the coronavirus crisis, Salford professional actor and avid walker, Adrian Palmer, has been reading favourite stories and fairytales via his Story Circle to a keen Zoom following, and is now doing a special Christmas tale to raise money for The Ramblers, Britain's largest walking charity.
On December 18th at 7.30pm, he will perform his own personal version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol on Zoom for his fellow walkers and everyone is invited to join in, preferably with wearing a fancy hat or their ugliest Christmas jumper.*
"Video calling has been vital during lockdown for us all to keep in touch, but, I have to be honest, after the first few weeks, those Zoom meetings started to get a little stale" says Adrian "Reading stories seemed like the ideal way to still spend time with loved ones online, and took our minds off the doom and gloom.
"I started a group called Story Circle to do this and the response so far has been amazing" he adds "I knew I could use this platform to perform a festive story to raise money for The Ramblers too."
Margaret Manning, Chair of Greater Manchester and High Peak Area, explains: "Understandably, many of our groups' walks in 2020 were cancelled or greatly restricted in numbers, meaning many who would have been getting out into the beautiful countryside, socialising with their walking friends, have been stuck at home.
"The fact that Adrian chose to raise money for our charity is incredible and we thank him for his creativity and entertainment" she adds "Walking has been more important than ever during the pandemic, and monies raised will help the Ramblers help people living in our area to enjoy walking, and to protect the places we love to walk."
