Salford has 177 new confirmed cases of coronavirus bringing the cumulative total to 6,854, up from the previous day's 6,677.
Over the latest seven day period, Salford has had 1,279 cases, up from 1,199, with a rate per 100,000 population of 494.1, up from 463.2.
Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, cases in Manchester during this period were 2,421 (up from 2,370), with a rate of 437.9 (up from 428.7). Other boroughs stats are Bolton 1,269 (up from 1,261), with a rate of 441.3 (up from 438.5), Oldham 1,109 (up from 1,063), with a rate of 467.7 (down from 448.3), Wigan 1,513 (down from 1,519), with a rate of 460.4 (down from 462.2, Tameside 840 (up from 837), with a rate of 370.9 (up from 369.5), Rochdale 1,119 (up from 1,090), with a rate of 503.1 (up from 490.1), Stockport 881 (down from 888), with a rate of 300.2 (down from 302.6), Bury 824 (up from 800), with a rate of 431.4 (up from 418.9) and Trafford 775 (up from 764), with a rate of 326.5 (up from 321.9).
There has been one new virus-related death at Salford Royal Hospital.
Meanwhile, in line with many other councils across the country, Salford City Council has announced that it is to provide free meals over the half term and Christmas holidays to all children in the city currently in receipt of free school meals.
It follows the general anger in the community of the failure of the Tory Government to back Marcus Rashford's free meals campaign, with a vote against the proposal in the House of Commons this week.
The Council is to supply £10 per week for the holiday periods, with a fundraising campaign organised by the Spirit of Salford Network to find £20,000 from the community to help support the scheme.
"The Council already has a programme in place to deal with holiday hunger in summer, through Salford Assist" says Councillor Sharmina August, of the Spirit of Salford Network "Our scheme over the last two years provided £5 a week for all schoolchildren on free school meals in summer - this time we're trying to double that."
To get a free voucher, parents and carers should take identification to their local Gateway or Broughton Hub.
Qualification criteria from Salford Council...
"If your child is in reception, Year 1 and/or Year 2 and in receipt of free school meals, or attends a non-mainstream school, to claim Health Holiday shopping vouchers you must be in receipt of the following benefits:
Income Support
Income based job seekers allowance
Income related Employment and Support Allowance
OR
Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) and your annual income is £16,190 or less or;
Guarantee Credit of Pension Credit or;
Universal Credit ( if you applied after 31 March 2018 your earnings from work must be less than £616.67 in the previous assessment period)"
