The Government's published its latest local authority Watchlist this afternoon that sees Salford now the ninth worst area in the country for coronavirus, up from 13th worst a week ago.
The Watchlist notes that the seven day moving average of individuals tested per day per 100,000 population (for the week ending 20th August but 'extracted' on 25th August) in Salford is down at 144; while the weekly incidence of the virus per 100,000 population is also slightly down at 31.8 (from 32.2) but the city is still marked down for Intervention, which means the current enhanced restrictions remain in place – as they do for Oldham (2nd on the list), Manchester (6th), Rochdale (7th), Bury (10th) and Tameside (13th).
Earlier this week, the Greater Manchester Leaders, led by GM Mayor Andy Burnham, called for Bolton and Stockport to be released from enhanced restrictions (see here). The Watchlist now has them moving out of 'Intervention' status to 'Enhanced Support', along with Trafford, which means all three (along with Wigan) are now in line with the rest of the country – and from Wednesday 2nd September restrictions on two households mixing in these boroughs will be lifted, and local businesses such as bowling alleys and indoor play areas will also be permitted to reopen.
