With face masks now becoming mandatory in more and more places, Islington Mill has launched a Masks For Life project in which its artists have produced limited edition handmade and printed fabric face coverings.
For every order received, an additional mask will be donated free to local organisations or individuals in need, with special focus on Salford.
"The face masks that we sell are unique and limited edition pieces" a spokesperson for the Mill explains "They are designed, printed and sewn by Islington Mill artists who have lost some or all of their income due to the COVID crisis. The scheme will generate income for artists and will also result in donations to community schemes and people in need. The masks are not intended to be PPE, they are easy to wear fabric face coverings/cough-guards intended to protect yourself and others in public space."
The Mill also wants to publicise other community schemes..."We want to use our platforms to divert attention to worthy projects that are also responding to COVID-19, such as Manchester Pink Scrubs and The Big Community Sew, supporting front-line workers and helping protect the community" they add.
The scheme has emergency Arts Council start up funding, and the masks sell for between £12 and £15. To buy one and for more details – click here
