Salford has five new confirmed cases of coronavirus bringing the cumulative total to 1,424, up from the previous day's 1,419.
Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, Manchester has a total of 3,174 (up from 3,158), followed by Wigan with 2,172 (up from 2,169), Oldham 2,056 (up from 2,036), Bolton 1,956 (up from 1,948), Rochdale 1,836 (up from 1,830), Stockport 1,711 (up from 1,704), Tameside 1,586 (up from 1,583), Trafford 1,383 (up from 1,370) and Bury 1,329 (up from 1,322).
Oldham with an infection rate of 872.6 per 100,000 population, compared to Salford's rate of 559.7, has imposed tighter restrictions on its residents after it recorded 119 new cases in the week to 24th July. People in Oldham are being asked not to have visitors in their homes and to keep two metres apart when outside, with no relaxed restrictions in care homes.
Meanwhile, new Public Health England statistics for the week ending 19th July for positive tests by Middle Super Output Areas, show a small number of cases concentrated in four Salford areas – Walkden North West (4 cases), Ordsall and Salford Quays (4 cases), Ellenbrook and Boothstown (3 cases) and Swinton West (3 cases).*
And new figures from the Office for National Statistics show one sad death in a Salford care home for the week ending 17th July. Yesterday, Salford Royal Hospital also announced one new virus-related death.
