After a lengthy halt to the rugby league season, the Salford Red Devils kick off the re-start away at Hull FC on Sunday 9th August with only the tv cameras there to witness it and no scrums allowed. The season is being stretched until November in the hope that crowds can return to stadiums, which will be 'under review' throughout the time.
Meanwhile the Club has today released a statement applauding its staff for agreeing a 'revised pay structure' to help it survive, as they return to work on Monday...
"This has been an important step in our efforts to protect the Club, during this current time of uncertainty" says Director, Paul King "I'm proud of all the staff who have united behind our cause, in a selfless act which will allow us to continue serving our supporters, sponsors and wider community.
"A special thanks has to go to Lee Mossop and Tyrone McCarthy in particular, who have shown the same leadership they do out on the field, representing the best interests of their teammates and the club as a whole" he adds "I am repeatedly amazed by the dedication towards this Club we see from our supporters, and now following this display of commitment from the players and all other staff, hope they continue to get behind us during these challenging times."
The players and coaching staff had their first day of testing on Wednesday, and captain Lee Mossop says, "I'm really proud with how the players and staff have stuck together throughout this process. As a group we have ripped in to voluntary individual training all the way through, despite not having a finish line in sight.
"The main focus of everyone here was to ensure we have a club at the end of this and I think the hard work of Paul King and the staff, plus us players accepting the cuts will ensure this" he adds "We now need to focus on this season and ensure it is a success on the back of this."
All Super League fixtures during August will be shown live on Sky Sports.
