Salford has four new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the total to 1,319, up from 1,315 the previous day.
Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, Manchester now has a total of 2,915 (up from 2,905), followed by Wigan with 2,125 (up from 2,122), Oldham 1,863 (up from 1,856), Bolton 1,835 (up from 1,824), Stockport 1,631 (up from 1,629), Rochdale 1,603 (up from 1,593), Tameside 1,520 (up from 1,518), Bury 1,280 (up from 1,278) and Trafford 1,252 (up from 1,250).
There have been no new virus-related deaths at Salford Royal Hospital.
Meanwhile, 69 year old Patrick Fahy from Eccles, a retired accountant living with incurable cancer, has walked over five hundred miles inside his home to keep fit while shielding, doing circuits upstairs and downstairs. He plans to walk a further five hundred miles by the time of his 70th birthday next month.
Patrick was diagnosed in 2014 with aggressive prostate cancer and usually volunteers as a patient representative with various local organisations, including Manchester Macmillan Supportive and Palliative Care Service...
"Volunteering is a major part of my personal method of coping with my life with cancer, and I find it so rewarding" he says "But, having been deprived by the lockdown of physical interaction with the teams, I needed a daily routine to keep me busy during quarantine.
"Every day I walk around the house until I have clocked up at least 21,000 steps on my Fitbit, or 15 kilometres" he explains "While this takes about three and a half hours a day, I walk for two hours before breakfast while my wife is asleep. I have found this quite easy as I am not easily bored, and I like to think I'm fairly strong-willed.
"This daily walking routine is purely for me" he adds "I find it relaxes my mind while strengthening my legs and I sleep more soundly and wake up feeling refreshed. I reckon that, at this rate, I would reach the 1,000-mile mark on 25th August, my 70th birthday, which is an added incentive to keep going."
Since being diagnosed, Patrick and his wife Patricia, have been supported by, among others, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service at Salford Royal Hospital.
