After two days of Salford reporting no new confirmed coronavirus cases, latest figures show an increase of five new cases, bringing the total to 977 up from 972. It was the highest rise in Greater Manchester...
Elsewhere, virus cases in Manchester now total 1,714 (up from 1,711), followed by Wigan with 1,231 (same), Oldham 1,151 (up from 1,150), Stockport 1,084 (up from 1,083), Bolton 1,054 (up from 1,052), Trafford 881 (up from 879), Rochdale 881 (up from 878), Tameside 863 (up from 859), and Bury 815 (up from 811).
Salford Royal Hospital recorded no new virus-related deaths.
Meanwhile, with the Government insisting on easing the lockdown further today, Manchester Airport – which received a reported £13million loan from part owner Salford City Council at the beginning of the pandemic, and is forecast to lose the Council a further £10million in dividends and interest* - has launched a range of safety measures as more airlines begin to resume flights.
These include enhanced cleaning, bookable security slots and temperature checks. The Airport is asking that only travellers and those working at the airport should enter the terminals, while keeping social distancing at all times and wearing face masks. People should bring their own face coverings and wash their hands regularly, while extra hand sanitiser will be available throughout the buildings.
All surfaces are also being deep cleaned on a rolling basis, with UV cleaning technology being trialled on escalator handrails, while protective screens have been installed in busy customer areas.
Travellers are also being asked to check the latest Government advice on the country of destination and any requirements for returning passengers, such as quarantine.
From July 1st, Terminal Three will also re-open with British Airways, Ryanair, Air France, KLM, Eastern Airways and Loganair reverting there.
"...We are confident we have the right mix of things in place to facilitate safe travel and allow passengers to fly with confidence" says Brad Miller, Chief Operating Officer at Manchester Airport "As well as having all our safety measures in place, we also ask that all passengers play their part in keeping themselves and others secure. This includes coming to the airport in a face covering and keeping a sensible distance from others when possible across the airport campus."
