After a month of closures due to coronavirus, Salford rubbish tips, or recycling centres, are set to re-open from 2nd May, it was agreed at a Greater Manchester Covid-19 Emergency Committee meeting yesterday.
Based on staffing levels and traffic management, Salford centres will re-open as follows...
Cobden Street Open Saturdays and Sundays
Salford Road (in Bolton boundary) Open Saturdays and Sundays
Lumns Lane 7 days a week
Boysnope Wharf 7 days a week
Social distancing will be in force at the centres and actual hours of opening will be notified nearer the date.
Meanwhile, confirmed cases of coronavirus in Salford have now reached 487, up by ten from the previous day's 477, and there were another four sad deaths at Salford Royal Hospital, taking its grim total to 122 coronavirus deaths overall.
Manchester still has the highest number of cases in Greater Manchester with 894, followed by Stockport on 671, Bolton 601, Oldham 495, Trafford 486, Wigan 479, Tameside 389, Bury 354 and Rochdale 344.
This week, the Office for National Statistics, or ONS, has rated the NHS Salford CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) area as the ninth most health deprived area in the country, out of 191 areas...
"Health deprivation is an important measure in the context of the coronavirus (COVID-19)" states the ONS "It reflects the concentration of people dying prematurely or experiencing poor quality of mental or physical health in an area. While not everyone in more deprived areas will experience poor health, disability or lower life expectancy, they are more likely to compared with those in less deprived areas..."
