The total number of sad deaths at Salford Royal Hospital due to coronavirus has now reached 84, after one more was announced yesterday. The figure only covers deaths at the hospital and not in care homes and elsewhere in the community.
115 people have also died of the virus at the Manchester University Foundation Trust since the epidemic began, 87 at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes North Manchester Hospital and 65 at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.
A total of 94 new deaths were announced in the North West yesterday, as the epidemic takes a horrific toll.
Meanwhile Salford has now got 327 confirmed cases of coronavirus, up by just six from the previous day but this might just be about the lack of reporting on a bank holiday.
Manchester now has 611 confirmed cases, the highest in Greater Manchester, followed by Stockport on 429, Trafford 342, Bolton 321, Oldham 306, Wigan 281, Tameside 263, Rochdale 251 and Bury 213.
YouTube now has an ever changing world map, showing in real time confirmed cases, total recoveries and total deaths from every country in the world. It's played out as a livestream to sombre music and the South Korean dentist/ programmer who created it states "The purpose is not to instil fear or panic, nor is it to necessarily comfort; I just want to present the data to help inform the public of the current situation..."
The map does make incredible viewing, with side graphs, real time comments – some heart warming, some vile - from around the world and every single country featured, from the Falkland Islands to Bermuda. The United Kingdom is the sixth worst affected in the globe, and what is stark is how few people have recovered in comparison to other countries.
