The number of officially confirmed cases of coronavirus in Salford has risen to 25, two up on the previous day. The largest number of cases in Greater Manchester remains in Manchester itself with 37, followed by Stockport with 36, Trafford and Oldham on 28, Tameside on 27, Rochdale on 19, Bolton on 18, Bury on 15 and Wigan on 9. The Salford Star also understands that a third patient has sadly passed away at Salford Royal Hospital.
Meanwhile, the message to Salfordians is to stay at home as much as possible, in order not to get or spread the virus. This was reinforced in no uncertain terms last night by the Government which announced a three week lockdown. To repeat...
People will only be allowed to leave the house for essential shopping, one form of exercise per day (alone or with members of your household), for medical needs or to take care of a vulnerable person.
Travel to work is only allowed if absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.
All shops selling non-essential items must be closed (Sports Direct take note!), but food stores, pharmacies, petrol stations, banks and some others (to be confirmed) can stay open. Cafes and restaurants that do deliveries or takeaway will also be allowed to continue.
Libraries, children's playgrounds, outdoor gyms and places of worship will also close, as will hotels, campsites etc.
Only immediate family will be allowed to attend funerals.
More details will emerge during the day, as well as how the police are going to enforce the restrictions.
