Swinton campaign group, Saving Our Neighbourhood, usually to be seen protesting outside the Civic Centre or Bellway Homes sites, has switched its attention to helping elderly people who may be self-isolating during the coronavirus crisis.
The group is distributing hundreds of forms stating 'If you are self-isolating I can help' – by Facebook, by email, and soon, by putting them through local letterboxes. On offer is help with shopping, posting mail, a friendly phone call or delivering urgent supplies...
"We're using it in our community, just encouraging people to talk to neighbours" says Carol Boyce, Chair of the Saving Our Neighbourhood group "We're a community and all up against the same thing, so we need to make sure that people are being taken care of...Hopefully, other neighbourhoods will do the same
"If you know neighbours who live on their own or who are elderly, make sure they are ok and don't need anything" she adds "Just open up the community to helping each other, it's crazy otherwise. The main thing is not to panic because fear depresses the immune system. Let's show some love instead of fear!"
