SALFORD MP REBECCA LONG-BAILEY STANDS FOR LABOUR PARTY LEADERSHIP

Star date: 7th January 2020

LONG-BAILEY PROMISES 'POLITICAL BACKBONE' AND 'PRINCIPLES'

"I'm not driven by personal ambition..."

Salford and Eccles MP, Rebecca Long-Bailey, has finally announced that she is standing in the election to become Labour Party Leader. In an article published in The Tribune magazine she writes about having a "political backbone", how she is "driven by principles" and is not "driven by personal ambition".

Full details here...

As expected, Salford and Eccles MP Rebecca Long-Bailey has announced that she is to stand as a candidate to become Leader of the Labour Party, alongside Keir Starmer, Emily Thornberry, Clive Lewis, Lisa Nandy and Jess Phillips.

Heralding her candidacy in The Tribune magazine, Rebecca Long-Bailey writes that "we need a leader that can be trusted with our socialist agenda. A leader who is totally committed to the policies and has the political backbone to defend them. We need a proud socialist to lead the Labour Party, driven by their principles and an unwavering determination to see democratic socialism in our lifetime."

She adds that "one reason we lost the election was that Labour's campaign lacked a coherent narrative. But this was a failure of campaign strategy, not of our socialist programme", and adds that her Green New Deal climate change policy "was tragically undersold".

"We struggled to marry our ambitious programme with voters' fundamental lack of trust in politicians" she explains "We had no plan to overhaul a broken political system and voters came to see Labour as part of the problem, another bunch of politicians making promises we couldn't keep. We've also, at times, been too close to the establishment we are meant to be taking on – whether cosying up to Rupert Murdoch, joining forces with David Cameron in the Better Together campaign in 2014 or turning our focus inwards on parliamentary manoeuvring for the last year."

She continues that "To win, we need to rebuild Labour as an insurgent force and offer a vision for a new democracy. We must go to war with the political establishment, pledging a constitutional revolution that sweeps away the House of Lords, takes big money out of politics and radically shifts power away from Westminster. My vision of a democratic, decarbonised economy alongside a new democracy that hands power and wealth back to ordinary people is one that can win."

In the article, Long-Bailey insists that "I'm not driven by personal ambition, but by my principles and an unwavering desire to change our country and our world for the better. And those principles have led me here. I'm not your typical politician. I'm not a millionaire or a landlord, and I didn't go to a posh school. Instead I'm a lifelong socialist, dedicated to our movement and determined to do my bit."

The ballot for Labour Party Leader runs between 21st February and 2nd April, with the result announced on 4th April.

Mr Felse states that running for the party leadership means publically having your name displayed as backing a defining style of politics. It does indeed. He should know as he has a record of backing just about every style of party policies available.

We should now wait and see if the Labour MPs muster enough backers for the running list. Seriously if you was a Labour MP remember it means publically having your name displayed as backing a defining style of politics. That will come back at you at the next General Election. I am just not sure all those seeking to stand for the Labour leadership will get necessary MP’s backing. Once we have the running list it becomes an open season for us to comment. Will be an interesting time ahead.

Miss Becky Wrong Daily, let's hear it for 10 more years, 10 more years. As much of an unelectable dunder head as her mentor Vladimir Ilyich Corbyn.

I’m sure Matron Myra’s up to her old tricks again, Kommandant of the Salford Maximum Security Twilight Home for Bewildered Geriatric Politicians (rated as “Outstanding” by the CQC). This morning I woke up a thumping headache and my mouth was as dry as the bottom of a budgie’s cage – I bet she’s been spiking our bedtime cocoa – AGAIN! AND I had a really weird and most vivid dream – a parodic anthological slow-motion car-crash of the Nation’s favourite soaps and their characters represented by cameo performances by persons we know sooo well! …… There I was, sitting in the Snug of my favourite watering hole, “The Politician’s Return”, partaking a bottle of milk stout with my flat hat at a jaunty angle. Behind the Bar, the Landlord – represented by our esteemed Mayor, Paul De-nett – sporting a nifty leopard-skin print three- piece suit, was in a deep discussion with his Potman, “And make sure your polish those pint pots till I can see myself in them! I’m expecting a rush – it’s the Hustings for the Labour Party Leadership tonight in the Concert Room. And wash your nets when you get home; you make this street look like a midden!” Potman Merry rolled his eyes to the heavens, past the Elastoplast securing the hinge on his specs and muttered a sotto voce aside, “Give someone an inch and they take a mile! I remember him when he was a lowly junior councillor for Langworthy; wet behind the ears, he was, till me, Gina G and Warmy took him in hand!” Evidently, it wasn’t sotto voce enough, for Landlord De-nett pursed his lips and gave one of his scary withering stares, “I heard that! And I remember you when you tried to pass yourself off as "Vince St. Clair" with a white suit, gold medallion and phoney trans-Atlantic accent in 1983! Mind you at least it fitted you then!” The doors opened and Ena Nandy, sporting her best hairnet and her sidekick, Minnie Rayner, came in. “It’s your turn, Minnie. I’ve been pumping that harmonium for hours at t’Glee Club Assembly at t’Mission and my feet are as flat as an oven-bottom balmcake from Alf’s shop.” “Oh,” said Minnie in her simpering voice, “don’t sit near Hedley Tatlock, Bobby doesn’t like him! And I’ve not let Bobby out or fed him yet!” “Minnie Rayner – you’re softer than a tub of lard on a hot summer’s day and just as drippy. All you think about is your pussy! Just get me a Milk Stout cocktail with fruit additions and umbrella and bring it over! We’ll sit at Martha’s table. Eeeh, I can’t believe it’s nearly 56 years since she died.” Landlord De-nett cocked his head to one side, “Can you hear that chanting? It sounds like it’s coming from the Red Rec and it’s definitely heading this way! Best get t’doors opened of t’Concert Room.” “Oh Becky Long Bailey, Oh Becky Long Bailey” was growing to a crescendo as the host approached the Concert Room’s doors preceded by a fast “click click click” on t’cobbles outside. The doors of the Bar parted in unison, light flooding in, silhouetting the diminutive figure of the blonde-bobbed bombshell that is Rebecca Long Bailey. “A glass of vintage sparkling Vimto, please”, she said. “I’ve just started running and my mouth is drier than an authentic gritty northern woman’s sense of humour!” then paused, as though expecting a round of applause for her authenticity. Obsequiously and fawningly proffering a flute of vintage sparkling Vimto to RBL, Potman Merry was beside himself, “A house speciality from one of the last bottles of Vimto made at the Chapel St, Salford premises sometime between 1910 and 1927. May I wish you every happiness and prosperity! If, in the progress of revolving years, I could persuade myself that my blighted destiny had been a warning to you, I should feel that I had not occupied another man's place altogether in vain.” RBL was taken aback. She hadn’t taken Potman Merry to be an aficionado of Dicken’s Mr Micawber from “David Copperfield”. Thinking on her feet – an incredible act and equivalence to running in her high heels, RBL responded in a similar vein, despite some political extemporising, “Under the Tories, Welcome poverty!..Welcome misery, welcome houselessness, welcome hunger, rags, tempest, and beggary! Mutual confidence will sustain us to the end as will a Labour Government under me! David Copperfield is my favourite magician.” “Not busy tonight in Hollyoaks?” enquired Mayor De-nett, in his withering tones? RBL ignored this and click click clicked her way into t’Concert Room. Before you could say, this dream is weird, and, all we need now is someone from “Crossroads” to appear, who should walk through the doors than none other than Jess Richardson, Matriarch of the King’s Oak Motel, suitcase in tow. She did say something, and repeated it at least 3 times. Getting blank stares from everyone due speaking in a thick flat vowel-mincing tongue, she carefully enunciated what she was trying to communicate, “Oi sayed, ‘Oi’m here for the Hustings, ploise direct mioi.” “First left, then left again,” said Landlord De-nett, “No roight turns here!” and off Jess Richardson went in her own inimitable fashion. “Ye gods,” proclaimed Ena Nandy to no-one in particular but aiming it at Minnie Rayner, “This dreams got more tangles in it than when I did a mass hairnet wash. I can hear horse’s hooves on t’cobbles outside now.” “Ooh Ena, you’re just like one of those modern topical comedians.” “I was being rhetorical.” “Have you made an appointment at the doctor’s?” simpered Minnie Rayner. The doors open and in bestrode a Knight In Shining Armour followed by his ADC. “I’m Sir Keir Dwyer KCB QC and Landlord of the Queen Vic and this is my ADC Clive Lewis. Where is the Hustings? Did you know that I’m a descendant of the English and French monarchies? Landlord De-Nett raising himself to his full height and nearly scraping the ceiling, his face behind his beard turned a shade of puce which did not contrast too well with his nifty leopard-skin print three-piece suit, bellowed, “GET OUTTA MY PUB” At that point, I nearly woke up but could smell the delightful aroma of lunch coming from the kitchen and in walked Betty Thornberry, “Who ordered Hotpot?” Thankfully I then did wake up feeling totally exhausted, as we all will by April 4!

She says that she's not driven by personal ambition. Well if she becomes leader, all that I can say is that she is either being dishonest or is deluded, as she is 100 percent unelectable. She said herself in today's Guardian that she has spent four years writing the policies that Corbyn espoused and he led Labour to its worst election results in 85 years. So how will things be any different in five years time with her at the helm? If she wasn't being motivated by selfish ambition, then she would understand that if she is the Labour leader she is unelectable, and is keeping the Party out of Government for at least ten years, possibly fifteen. I honestly don't know if Labour will ever have power in this country again. Certainly never with the likes of Long Bailey running it. Starmer on the other hand, could win an election in five years time. He's their only hope.

“Socialist” And all the while she oversees the gentrification of Salford, among other things. I’m done with her and the rest of them, you get what you deserve when you vote for them!

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
