"It's disgusting, it's not right...'
As hospitals experience their busiest time of the year, with overworked frontline paramedics struggling to cope, staff are furious over a management notice on the bulletin board in their vehicles which tells them how to behave outside A&E.
The notice states: 'Following a complaint from a member of the public please be mindful when outside A&E of how the public view your actions. Eg Being on mobile phones/Snapchat or taking refreshments...'
One member of staff told the Salford Star "This is what front line North West Ambulance service crews have to read when they step onto their vehicles for a cold wet night shift! It's disgusting, it's not right..."
They added that safeguarding referrals are made by telephone, which explains why staff need to be on their mobiles.
Another paramedic added: "This weekend I went to a multi-patient major trauma rtc, and 2 cardiac arrests amongst all the other run of the mill stuff and finished late on every shift. If I want to have a ten minute brew in between jobs then I will and I don't care who complains..."
The Salford Star has tried to contact North West Ambulance for a response...
Update: 6:30pm: North west Ambulance has apologised to staff on social media...
"We are truly sorry for the upset caused by this message. This was made with good intentions and was not meant to hurt anyone. We value and support all our frontline staff who are working exceptionally hard in challenging circumstances..."
