The Grade II listed Victoria Theatre in Lower Broughton has moved a step closer to being saved, with the appointment of Colliers International to carry out a viability study following a grant of £21,000 from the Theatres Trust.
The idea is to restore the theatre to its original, with the new owner remaining supportive...
"We have a real opportunity to save the building for the community" says Sam Kelly, Chair of the Salford Victoria Theatre Trust "We hope that the report will give us the option to re-open 'the Vic' as a theatre and become a meeting point in the community; a cultural hub, providing entertainment, generating creativity and engagement in community activities.
"we also want it to improve the well-being of the community and to create opportunities for training for local people in all aspects of performing arts, and the technical and management skills involved in running a theatre" she adds "We have had so much support and memories from so many people but we'll have to wait and see what the study reveals first."
