Does politics get any more sensitive than this? A Dare To Dream event at the People's History Museum in Manchester with craftivism at its epicentre...
It aims to 'explore the power of positive visualisation in finding solutions and effecting change', taking inspiration from 'local dream-makers whose historic ideas helped to shape a new reality'.
In this case, it's social reformer Annie Besant, who was an early advocate of birth control, and became heavily involved with the successful Match Girls Strike of 1888 to demonstrate against poor working conditions.
On Sunday 22nd September, a free drop-in workshop runs between 11am and 2:30pm, and, states the organisers, 'participants will hand-stitch their positive visions for the future onto fabric dream clouds, share their creations on social media, and display them in meaningful locations, to encourage us all to be solution-seekers and change-makers'.
After the workshop, at 3pm, a separate pre-bookable event will see award winning activist and founder of the global Craftivist Collective, Sarah Corbitt, host an in-conversation talk on The Art of Gentle Protest.
"By having a vision rather than just fixating on a problem, our brains start finding ways to turn those visions into reality" says Sarah "Join us and craft your creation, whilst you think deeply about what your dream for a better world will look like, and how you can be part of making it. Stitch by soothing stitch, we can become positive change-makers."
It's all part of Heritage Open Days 25 Years of People Power and the Open Days' National Manager, Annabelle Thorpe, says "We're thrilled to be working with Sarah, who embodies the gentle form of People Power that is at the heart of Heritage Open Days. Throughout history, real change has come from those who have thought differently, dreamed big and believed solutions are there to be found. Dare to Dream offers a chance for everyone to think about how we can all positively shape the future, and make our dreams for a fairer, happier society become reality."
