For one night only the hate, the cynicism and the vitriolic gobshites vying to be Prime Minister were forgotten as thousands of people joined Yoko Ono to Ring Bells For Peace in Cathedral Gardens in Manchester. The 86 year old artist legend didn't make the journey in person but the warmth, wit and vibes travelled 'across the universe', as even policemen joined in the bell ringing. "Think peace, act peace, spread peace, imagine peace" said Yoko introducing herself and smiling on a giant screen, as solitary bells rang out from specially erected towers "Manchester, Manchester, Manchester...Hello! I'm so happy you are all here to participate in Bells For Peace... "Today we will be coming together to make this work a reality...Together we will change the whole vibration of the planet just with the sound of these bells. Now hold up your bells and Ring For Peace..." Thousands of bells, some homemade, some produced in workshops, some nicked from the cat's collar, rang out and tinkled as everyone enthusiastically responded... Well, who wouldn't want to 'change the whole vibration' of a planet that gets more fucked every day? And besides, this was joyous, post-solemn and fun, as the smiles on people's faces registered... "Peace, Peace, Peace is Power...Surrender to Peace!" implored Yoko. Then there were more quasi rituals, based on her ace writings from the 1960s... "Draw a large circle in the sky...Think of what the next person is thinking...Breathe Together...Make a promise to a tree; Ask it to be passed onto another tree... "Count the clouds. Name them" Yoko continued, to much amusement. Like, there ain't enough names in the cosmos to title the Manc clouds that hovered overhead... "Ring to the Universe...Ring for Action. Ring for Hope. Ring to the Sky. Ring to the Trees. Ring to the Universe. Ring for Peace. Surrender to Peace" she mantra'd "We must imagine peace every day you know...", as the evening ended with Give Peace A Chance blasting away any negativity that still dared to show its face. This was Yoko doing what only Yoko can do...the furtherance of a canon of work that goes right back over fifty years, complete with those iconic white and black graphics that have punched and caressed her message. Last night was July 4th. America had Independence Day fireworks. Manchester fired messages of hope. With bells on... Yoko was opening the Manchester International Festival which runs until 21st July – click here for details.
Yoko's performance was preceded by a film showing local people defining peace, ending with one woman saying 'Peace is everything...' To view some rather bad videos of the evening see the Salford Star video channel on You Tube – click here and click here

| Mr realist, it is more than likely mr Kingston will ban me, but mr Kingston won’t ban me for writing racist comments or being abusive or overly nasty, because if this was the case rayofsunshine would have gone long ago, but let’s face it, mr rayofsunshine is in the same camp as mr Kingston politically and ideologically, no mr realist, mr Kingston will ban me, as he censors most of my comments because I tell the truth and back it up with facts and the main reason mr Kingston censors my posts is because I destroy his political ideology of socialism. You see mr realist, for many years now, mr rayofsunshine has been trying to have myself and many others banned because he regularly get destroyed in debate, then he spits his dummy out and then calls on mr Kingston to ban us, rayofsunshine was the kid at school who use to take his ball home if he couldn’t be Brian robson or pele and he’s taken this mentality with him from childhood to adulthood, fits in perfectly with the socialist ideology a child’s mind in a adults body syndrome. Let’s face it mr realist, l and a number of others on this site who don’t suck up to the star or mr Kingston keep this site relevant with an alternative and perspective view, without us this site would just be another leftwing socialist echo chamber, which is what rayofsunshine and by the sounds of it mr Kingston want. Mr Rossi keep going, I was in the same boat as you back in the late 80s early 90s although I would say it’s probably more difficult now than in my time, as I put in my posts, we have an massive over supply of labor in the labor market, thanks to Labour Party’s open borders crusade and it doesn’t help when people like mr realist take advantage of this over supply by opening 50 pence shops and employing the cheapest labor, which mainly excludes the indigenous population and keeps them in poverty, keep your chin up and small steps, Bob offers good advice, offer to work with a tradesman laboring for free so many days a week, helps to get a foot in the door, small things lead to big things. On being banned by mr Kingston, well that is his prerogative , mr Kingston won’t ban me for writing nasty words, mr Kingston will ban me for telling the truth and pointing to facts, the things that the leftwing socialist ideology hate. So mr Kingston, if you want to ban me, go a head, I’ll wear it as a badge of honour, I’ll join the ranks of the thousands of people being banned off leftwing social media sites for telling the truth. If this post is anything to go by, then this won’t get posted, as numerous others of mine don’t.
Have you got the bottle to put it up mr Kingston or is this one going on the bin. |

| Mr Brexit, it’s no wonder the Star bins your posts, they are worthless drivel! And Rossi, no I don’t know you, I just know from your posts that you are a waster, an idler, a wastrel, a layabout. No use to society and one who cares not about himself, his dwelling, his community or his fellow man. Now shut up. |

| I think all that Mr Brexit is highlighting is the hypocrasy of some of our lefty multi millionaires ,who preach one thing to us and then do the opposite to benefit themselves. Even icons of the "class struggle" are the worst offenders. People like King Arthur Scargill who juggled his family homes about for years so he could take advantage of Mrs Thatchers right to buy to aquire his council flat in the Barbican Centre and make one and half million quid on it while people are homeless in the streets below. As for yoko, was she not the one who had a huge collection of fur coats along with her late husband. All the lefty greens don't have a go at her about them though do they? Imagine if female tory cabinet ministers, or Kate and Meghan were seen wearing fur coats. They would instantly become the biggest slags on the planet. Also if the editor is thinking of banning Mr Brexit, should he not also consider barring some of those appologists for the labour vermin rulers of our city, the people who cause countless misery for our citizens. I am sure that most of the crap they come out with offends a great many of the decent people who read this journal. |

| Rossi old pal, you've got to pull yourself together. You got to get your life going. You sound like a bright lad. I know its a bit hard if your a single lad on your own with just a bit of dole money coming in, and you have to live in one of our housing association shitholes. No doubt we will have a few comments here about "getting off your arse and get a job ect". The jobs that are on offer for the un skilled are shit low paid boring ones.If you take them ,people are about twenty quid a week better offafter the council have hit you for council tax rent etc.I guess you are between35 and 40. you got plenty of years. Why do you not try one of the brickwork courses? the dole will pay for it,you might like it.once you learn it and get better at it you can always earn a bit of money with it. people always want a bit of work doing.just before i finished i could have done with a young lad to do a bit of blockwork with me and my hoddy. have a go, it will get you out of the house. good luck. |

| Realist, lm old enough to spot a charlatan, that’s what yoko, Bono, lily alan, Gary Lineker, jk Rowling etc etc are. Multi millionaires who live in ivory towers preaching to people they wouldn’t give the time of day too if there wasn’t a camera around. People like yoko and Rowling and Alan preach open borders whilst living in multi million pound properties surrounded with 10foot walls, the best security money can buy, they send their children the the best schools money can buy, then they preach to people like me that we’ve got to except the whole world and that we have to share our piece of the cake ie housing, schools, hospitals, infrastructure, whilst they live in their 98% white middle class areas, well away from the third world way of life they push and impose on the majority of people in this country. If people like the above are so concerned about the ills of this country or the world, then they should go to there banks empty them out and give it to the needy and their causes and stop asking the people in this country who are living on the breadline to keep putting their hand in their pockets and chipping away at their meagre slice of the cake, unlike you and mr Kingston, lm not star struck by these people, l see them for what they are, charlatans, sellers of snake oil and l woke up long ago to their spin. Sorry mr Kingston, what’s age got to do with it, listened to Ian collins the other day on talk radio, had a phone caller on who was in his 80s called rainbow George, typical lefty, bragged about how relaxing it was to smoke the funny stuff whilst he drove, guess we should’t criticise him because of his age or at least till he knocks a kid over. Are you going to put this post up mr Kingston or is this one going in the bin like a number of others I post. |

| It’s sad, but ultimately the reality, that there’s too many ideological differences between people for her symbolic idea to affect global change, currently. She and others like her were saying this sort of thing back in their hay-day, it changed next to nothing. In fact, she and her type would’ve been flattened by tanks or shot back in the 60s by some regimes - and would be today by the likes of Russia, China, Iran and Saudi etc. I’m not being mean when I say this but maybe she should go to or play her video messages in the above mentioned countries, those countries need more change than the Westernised ones she visits. I personally think better education and better standard of living would increase global peace, but nations with an uneducated citizenry are easier to control, both for the despot nations where the citizens live and our Western nations who get what they want through their corrupt leaders. Maybe it’s human nature, it corrupts everything. |

| Mr Brexit, how old are you? You sound like a very bitter single old man who has no friends. Bitter and twisted against a world that you don’t belong to because you despise everything that doesn’t fit your ideal world, misogynistic heterosexual white men, where there’s no one of colour, or different sexuality and where women are fit just for the kitchen and bedroom. Thank god people like like you are a dying breed, and it 10 to 20 years will be totally eradicated!
Yoko Ono is 86 and someone who has done a damn sight more for peace than any of your pals have ever done! |

| I agree with Mister Brexit, the yoko thing sounds like an absolute joke. The kind of wishy washy load of crap that only an old hippy who lives in a fifty million dollar apartment in the Dakota Building, with a good view of Central Park, would come up with.
Oooohhh, let's all ring bells for peace, and stick flowers in the barrels of soldiers rifles, and I'll carry on objecting to the parole of "The Subject", who's done forty years and counting for topping John. "All weee arrrre saaayyyiiiinnnn' is giiive peeaaaaacce a chaaaaannncccce!" |

| Sounds like a lot of drugs were taken, yoko could’t make it in person, sounds like she was too stoned to walk. We’ve got crime happening all over Manchester and Salford and you can’t get a police officer for love or money, but you’ll find them at these type of none events singing and dancing. I used to have a lot of respect for the police, that has completely gone, they’ve got time to trawl the internet for people saying hurty feely words. We need a POLICE FORCE NOT a touchy-feely, Politically correct, common purpose, weak police service as we have now. |
