SWINTON HOMELESS SHELTER FACES EVICTION BY TRAFFORD HOUSING TRUST

Just a few days ago, Trafford Housing Trust told the Salford Star that "The last thing we want is for people to be left without a place to stay" in regard to the new homeless people's occupation at the disused Swinton Hall Nursing Home but yesterday served possession papers with a court hearing set for Friday morning at the County Court. "Trafford Housing Trust states that it doesn't want to see anyone homeless yet they've not even given us time to get legal representation" says Angela Barratt of Salford Street Support which is helping the residents. In its statement to the Salford Star, the Trust added that it had a "genuine concern for the safety of those in the building" which it believes doesn't have fire safety measures in place and isn't 'fit for purpose'. On social media, support for the Swinton Saving People Shelter has been huge from the Salford online community... "Glad it's being used at last xx"... "Good for them wish I could help more xx"... "Would rather this to save lives than a building stood empty xx"... "I used to work here Swinton Hall Nursing Home best home in Salford bk then its 50 plus rooms why not turn it into that would be great"... ..."Good for them...think it's disgusting evicting homeless people.....so much for Andy saying it was his main priority to tackle homeless in Manchester"...
The hearing is set for Friday 17th May, 10am, at the Civil Justice Centre

| If you read Betty's comments on the other related article, you can see in a short time they are already causing issues. Unfortunately, media is very one sided when it comes to homelessness. The same as travellers crying discrimination when literally 100% of general public interaction with them is violence, trespassing and property destruction. Media is too scared to speak the truth. |

| Mary, I used to have this friend, a fat little cockney guy called Marc. He looked like Captain Pugwash and spent most of his time hanging around Eccles Precinct talking out of his ass ... mostly about Socialism, Karl Marx and Engels. Apparently Engels's local pub was The Grapes in Eccles. Anyway, amongst the Ass Talk, which often included him bragging about his salary, there would often come the occasional pearl of wisdom. Pearls of wisdom such as "Window Dressing". He would use this "Pearl" in the context of Andy Burnham's much feted (and failed) homeless initiative. He would say that it was simply "Window Dressing", an attempt to be doing something while in truth doing nothing. And you know what, in the case of Burnham's initiative he would be dead right.
I haven't seen Marc for a long time. I think that he retired to somewhere called Amorgos. With a young Filippina wife. He lives in a little Sugar Cube house, perched on a cliff top, blue skies above and a blue sea below; and apparently he spends a lot of his time calling late night Talk-Radio stations, pretending to be an elderly Russian anarchist called Krapotkin and boring people with endless waffle about politics and Karl Marx ... It is so so sad. |

| I heard about Burham's bed for the night and with it mentioned here thought i would take a look at it online. It seems last year he opened what looks like a super de lux doss house in town, complete with very nice duvets that look like they have come from dunhelm mill or m and s, but it could not open it for the homeless because of an intermittant electrical fault.This is just pure bullshit.The council,and most of the local housing providers have some very good sparks, I know, I am a spark myself, and I know the lads I am talking about. Trouble is, what they do is send out a first responder, who trys to fix things fist, like a tripped earth breaker,without finding the fault that trips it. At Christmas time, I reckon the proper sparks were very short staffed and very busy, and that was the least of their priorities. Old and vunerable people come first, and people with small kids. Better luck next christmas. |

| Not fit for purpose??? It's got a roof 4 walls and it's dry.Anything is better than sleeping in a doorway bus shelter or tent, if your lucky to have one. While the shelter was in use in Eccles it helped so many people.Now it's back on the streets for these people who for what ever reason has fallen on bad times. As for Andy Burnham and his project regarding homelessness, think he has about 7 months to sort the problem of out. Just remember
