Star date: 27th February 2019 COUNCILLOR PAUL WILSON RESIGNS FROM LABOUR PARTY AT SALFORD COUNCIL BUDGET MEETING "I say to these fake socialists it's time they look at themselves in the mirror and ask themselves who the real socialist is..." Councillor Paul Wilson, who represents Weaste, sensationally resigned from the Labour Party today at a full meeting of Salford City Council, voting against the Party's budget, citing "fake socialists", "bullying", "factions and patronage", "vanity projects" and a "morally corrupt party"... "Paul Dennett had joined the old guard of Labour politicians and seemed to have forgotten that he was once opposed to private consultants and expensive homes built at the expense of Salford people" he stated. At an explosive meeting of Salford City Council today, Weaste Councillor Paul Wilson sensationally and publicly resigned from the Salford Labour Party, citing a whole list of allegations, ranging from 'bullying' to 'factions and patronage' and a 'morally corrupt party'... Councillor Wilson spoke after Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, had proposed a budget containing over £13million of 'savings', explaining that "austerity is far from over", slating the "depths of misery" caused by the Conservative Government, and how it was "diverting money into wealthy areas...further entrenching inequality". The Mayor also announced a 2.99% Council Tax rise, plus a 1% social care precept, while a GM Mayoral Police Precept of around £24 a year and a Mayoral General Precept of around £50 per year is also to be added. Following the Mayor's speech, Councillor Wilson read out a prepared statement laying into the Salford Labour Party policies, the old leadership of John Merry "wasting money on expensive private consultants" and building unaffordable homes; and the policies of previous City Mayor Ian Stewart, "whose main achievement was to eradicate any kind of democracy that still existed in Salford Labour Party...whilst building a power base around patronage..." Councillor Wilson accused current Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett of continuing the process, arguing that he has "continued to throw money at vanity projects, projects such as the Salford's rugby stadium, expensive office blocks". He also accused Dennett of "hypocrisy", that had "seen him vote to sell off Council houses and then complain to the mainstream media we have no affordable homes left..." The full statement reads... Resignation of Councillor Paul Wilson from Salford Labour Party "Earlier today I wrote to the party members of the ward I represent to thank them for their support over the last seven years and inform them that I have made the difficult decision to resign from Salford Labour Party, a party that I have spent most of my life working for so that the people of Salford would benefit from Socialist policies. Today I voted against the proposed budget, a budget proposed by City Mayor Dennett which has shown that the priority of Salford people is being neglected; allowing care workers to be paid less than the living wage, closing a children's home, more staff loses and this all whilst paying for expensive office blocks on the outskirts of Manchester, funding a failing stadium, paying millions of pounds in interest on capital projects that ordinary Salford people will not benefit from and all whilst hiking up Council Tax. Paul Dennett will argue that the cuts are the fault of austerity, but when his administration has failed year on year to effectively collect Business Rates and Council Tax it shows a lack of leadership has significantly contributed to the cuts in services and the increases in Council Tax. There are those within Salford Labour Party who will, and have said, I'm doing this because I'm a Blairite, or a red Tory, these same people are the ones who voted to sell off the Council Houses and cut disabled transport whilst I voted against these right wing policies. It's the very same people who verbally attacked me in the corridors of the Civic Centre for trying to protect our Council Houses! Well I say to these fake Socialists it's time they look at themselves in the mirror and ask themselves who the real socialist is! During my time as a Councillor I have proved to be effective at getting results for the people of Salford and have forced City Mayors to change policies, policies such as building in public parks and allowing hundreds of homes to be built on recreational land. But by standing up for Salford people I have been subjected to bullying from within the party, punished by being blocked to stand again because I was dealing with personal health issues and this is all whilst witnessing Anti-Semitic behaviour being brushed under the carpet by those in charge of Salford Labour. I know I'm not alone and whilst serving as a Labour Councillor I have served with other honest, hard working Councillors who I know are wrestling with their conscience as to if they can continue to serve in this current party political system based on factions and patronage. My motivation for becoming a Councillor was that the Salford Labour ran Council under the leadership of Councillor Merry had lost sight of what was important to making Salford a better and fairer city to live in, wasting money on expensive private consultants, building expensive homes that Salford people could not afford and at the time this is a view Paul Dennett shared. Next came along Ian Stewart whose main achievement was to eradicate any kind of democracy that still existed in Salford Labour Party. He continued to waste money on consultants, threw money at vanity projects and ignored the voices of Salford people, and all whilst building a power base around patronage. The only difference this time was Paul Dennett had joined the old guard of Labour politicians and seemed to have forgotten that he was once opposed to private consultants and expensive homes built at the expense of Salford people. Under the current City Mayor's 'leadership' Paul Dennett has continued to throw money at vanity projects, projects such as the Salford's rugby stadium, expensive office blocks. But it gets worse, the hypocrisy of Dennett has seen him vote to sell off Council houses and then complain to the mainstream media we have no affordable homes left. This is a 'leadership' that sees the same people in charge of Salford Council that were in charge back in John Merry's days. Dennett will tell you that he's making a difference with his Derive project to build social housing, well for all the millions of pounds invested we have a handful of homes in the shadows of the dangerous tower blocks that Paul Dennett so proudly pushed forward in another private finance initiative. I have tried to change this morally corrupt party from within by working with the current leadership, but it has proved impossible and now is the time for change, the change that Salford people want and deserve. I will now stand as an independent Councillor and I will work in alliance with others who feel let down with the traditional party political system to drive change that Salford people want; change that sees affordable homes built for Salford people, change that protects jobs in Salford whilst improving our failing school system and providing good quality health care. I will also work to improve our environment by reducing environmental crime and protecting green spaces..." After Councillor Wilson's speech, Deputy Mayor John Merry accused him of "lies and smears" and "nonsensical statements", Councillor Heather Fletcher explained that she hadn't experienced any anti-semitism from Labour Party members in Salford, Councillor Bill Hinds called the statement "disgraceful", while City Mayor Paul Dennett declared himself "upset" at the comments, arguing that he had never proposed building houses in Buile Hill Park, adding that it was "unfortunate" Councillor Wilson had not raised his issues at a recent meeting of Salford Labour Party. At the conclusion of the meeting, the budget was duly passed.
*The Salford Council meeting also debated capital expenditure on office blocks and more – further details see here

You are simply a sad and lonely man who derives pleasure from goading other well meaning people, people like Mary and Joe. | If you are that worried about the land swap, the Mansion and the park why have you never attended any of the meetings to voice your concerns.its easy to sit in front of your laptop slagging people off. You don't put your name to any of your comments. I have
campaigned for the Mansion since 2003, I haven't done it to get publicity or for votes, I have done it because I have a love for that park and the beautiful building within that park. If I do stand in May I would/Will put the campaign on my leaflets. I would also put issues about our City, our council and the lack of respect for the people of Salford. As far as I know I have never met you, but here is an invite to meet up and sort out your problems with me.because it is quite clear you do have a problem with me and not just the comments I have made |

You haven't a bloody clue about the Mansion, if you did you would know what Capital and centric were willing to invest in the Mansion, and the proposed housing (Not in the park) you would also know what the rough time the council would have to pay it back. So instead of having a bloody pop at others, get off your backside and do something positive. For some reason you don't have anything positive to say. Why are you so bothered about me and what I have or haven't done and for what reason have I done it. Please please let me know what you are or have done. Not that I am bothered, could not give a dam. | See you still haven't the balls to put your name to your nasty comments. So with people not knowing your name we can't check what YOU have done for your community and city. Over the years
our Labour run council haven't done very much for the people of Salford, both as a group and the ward councillors. We have councillors in my ward which is Claremont who promise shop keepers weeks ago that they would get extra lighting and cameras, the shops are are still waiting.Residents had to ask Paul Wilson for help regarding fencing, it was done. I asked our councillors in public for their help and support with the Mansion and the proposed housing, they said they were to busy ( they didn't have the balls to stand up for the people) but Paul Wilson did and John Warmisham also voiced his concerns. Duncan Mattison playing fields are in Claremont, but it was Paul Wilson who helped with the residents on their campaign. In fact at the last community committee meeting Paul Wilson told the claremont councillors and the residents to the campaign they needed to work together. I could go on and on about our Labour council and councillors, but would take too long. Sunshine you questioned my achievements or lack of. well it looks like myself and others have stopped the building of houses within Buile Hill Park.i found out about the proposed houses from Steve Kingston and have held 5 public meetings since last June, paid for out of my own pocket. It's thanks to the Star we get to find out about all the somewhat dodgy dealings that happen within our Labour run council. You don't like me for what ever reason, but carry on having your digs and I will carry on having a dig at your Labour party, both local and national. If they did work for the people than I would have nothing to call them for, but the residents don't count unless it's election time. |

| Having been a member of the Labour Party for the last 8 years I completely agree with councillor Wilson’s comments. I myself have faced and witnessed the bullying which goes on within Salford labour. I was told by one councillor I should not speak when a man wants to speak a meeting, cllr hindes was present in and did nothing about. I’ve been austrasised by cllrs and members due to connections I have within the party. I’ve had friends who we’re told not to get involved with the Wheelers/Wilson’s as they’re a bad bunch.
In regards to antisemetic comments before his resignation members and councillors quite often made comments about Howard Balkind and jeers of “which Jewish holiday is it today” as he often missed campaigning sessions or couldn’t be at a meeting. This in partnership with tweets made by cllr Pevitt which he has admitted to. Yes he apologised however I don’t think that is good enough. He should of been punished for his actions.
Those who do not see the bullying are those who are involved in it. I fully believe the majority of the labour councillors are fully aware of what goes on whilst some choose to bury their heads in the sand for an easy life and to remain selected because as soon as you don’t follow the crowd your gone. I hope one day they have the courage to stop being yes men even though this puts them at risk.
Labour should stand up for the people of Salford and support them however they’re doing a cracking job at doing the opposite. |

Whether he voted on theses waste of space projects or not is of no interest to me.
Paul has Been an outstanding Councillor, he has spoken out against issues he thought was not in the best interest of the residents of Salford for a long time.

| I assume Mr Wilson is leaving because he is decent, has integrity, moral, and conscience, which are not treats associated with Salford council. Paul Dennett sold his soul to get his job and home. In regards to the many thousands of people who were driven out of their homes, by social cleansing/engineering to GIVE the land to the big developers and the failed so-called regeneration projects (all have failed) the person behind that was John Wooderson. Salford council also believe that it has the powers to act as a court, with its own legal system, just type council tax into YouTube and watch the latest uploads to see what's happening. There is and can never be a court order for council tax, just ring the court directly and hear there response when you ask for your copy, which is sent as the normal court process. |

Due to the emergency he was 8 days late submitting the form and, despite offering a full explanation (including the details of the emergency) they chose to ignore this. |

| Does Cllr Merry not know that Parliamentary privalidge not extend to a council chamber? He accuses Cllr Wilson of lying. That allegation is either true or false. The days when gentlemen settled these matters with swords or pistols at dawn are unfortunately long passed. However ,Cllr Wilson does have a remedy. He should sue for libel. Cllr Wilson does not have to prove he is telling the truth, Merry has to prove his allegation that Wilson is telling lies. Bring it on. |

| In my great joy reading this article, I almost missed that picture of Merry. He looks like a right scruffy old dosser doesn't he? Cllr Wilson mentions anti-semitism being brushed under the carpet by salford council. I must admit that I am a bit surprised by that. When all these anti-semitism allegations in the national labour party came up, I felt our lot here must be as guilty as hell, on the grounds that as well as having the thickest loudmouth bunch of labour councilors in the country, we also have the second largest jewish community. Surely a recipe for one of them to say or do something they shouldn't. I must admit this is the first time I have heard it mentioned.no doubt it will all come out. |

| This is not the end,it is not even the beginning of the end, but it could be the end of the beginning. Will cllr Wilson now talk to the Star? I hope so.Have we got any more resignations in the pipeline I wonder? My money would be on Cllr Quisling. He lists his day job under members interests as working for Anne Coffey MP, one of the recent Labour leavers. |

| How many more will come out of the woodwork? It worries me that Cllr Wilson chooses the timing after deselection, his comments would have found more bite pre deselection than today. He is an honest man and from what I hear a good Councillor Labours loss, his comments will make the ears of Labours Hierarchy in Salford stand on end why because even though his timing stinks what he said today is fact, reported on this site and in opposition documents for the past ten years lets hope the electorate listen. |

| Salford have lost a very hardworking honest caring councillor. Everything Councillor Wilson has stated is true. We have read it here on the Star, we have seen it with our own eyes. It is a time for change. Our City is crumbling before us. We are being taken over by greedy developers who make millions, but put nothing back into the inferstructor of OUR city. Thank you Councillor Paul Wilson for standing up to the bullies who have run our city into the ground. I wish you well and hope others take your side in May |

| How can John Merry accuse Pall Wilson of that? It was under Merry's leadership that many people in his own area of Higher Broughton were ripped off and largely cleared out of the area so developers could build expensive housing for incomers to the area.
It is Merry who has always defended the Salford Reds stadium and the loans.
It is Merry who has always backed new developments and claimed the council tax they would bring in would benefit the people of Salford.
It was Merry and Warmisham who closed local schools only to realise years later that there was a shortage of schools.
I am sure there are many other things that will come out in the next few years as well.
Salford Labour is rotten and is unlikely to change, but credit to Paul Wilson for standing up and speaking out and resigining.

| Had recent dealings with Councillor Wilson.. he came across as a very honest bloke. Will be interested to see if he gets in as an independent candidate at the next local elections. He has certainly worked hard towards ensuring Buile Hill Park stays a green space and "housing free". ps. Nice picture of John Merry...looks like he might have a bottle Meths tucked away in his back pocket...what a waster!

| Whilst I openly admit that politically I am to the right of the spectrum I fully agree with the decision of Councillor Wilson to quit the absolute rotten to the core Labour Party.
I for one support your decision and I sincerely hope that you are elected as an Independent Councillor for Weaste and Seedley |
