The Garfield Weston Foundation gets its vast funds from shares in 'the family business', which includes Twinings, Primark, Kingsmill, Fortnum & Mason and more. To celebrate its 60th anniversary, a new £5million fund has been created for charities and community organisations across the UK, with awards of up to £150,000 for each charity that successfully applies for help "to improve their existing facilities or provide new ones".
A survey by the Foundation found that two-thirds of small charities expect their income to stay the same or decline in the next 12 months, yet over half expect to be delivering more services.
"At a time when communities are struggling to support those in need, we felt it was important to launch a fund that would help bring local communities together" says Garfield Weston Foundation's Director, Philippa Charles "By funding capital projects, we want to ensure that charities have the facilities they need to do more of their great work.
"You only have to look at what's happening to youth services across the country to see how vital good community support is" she adds "Without these services many vulnerable people will be at risk. We want to help small, local charities give people a safe place to go to get the help that they need, at the time that they need it."
The Weston Anniversary Fund is open to charities and community organisations with an annual income of less than £500,000 – for more details click here
The deadline is 30th June 2018.
