In July, it will be two years since residents with fond memories of Salford Children's Holiday Camp managed to stave off attempts by its management committee and Salford City Council to cut its funding and close it (see previous Salford Star article – click here)
Since then, the Jam Butty Camp or Salford By The Sea, has been running with lots of Salford kids enjoying holidays in Prestatyn, helped by volunteers who have refurbished it and generally supported it to remain open. However, it still needs financial help, and on Saturday 11th February there's a big fundraiser at the Ffrith Bowling Centre in Prestatyn, with some top acts and an amazing auction.
On the bill will be The Mearcatz rock n roll band and Steve Cole, a Michael Buble tribute singer. Top stuff at the auction includes a signed football by Sir Geoff Hurst in a presentation case with certificate, a signed Mike Tyson glove in a presentation case with certificate, two tickets to see the Man United v Chelsea, two tickets to see Eric Cantona at the Lowry, a David Bowie painting by famous Dutch artist Nick Twaalfhoven and lots more.
Even if you can't make it on the night you can bid online or by phone (inbox the Salford Shines Facebook site for details*).
"After an amazing effort by a lot of wonderful people we managed to save our beloved 'jam butty camp' from closure but now it needs help to stay open and give less fortunate children perhaps the only chance they will have of a holiday" says James Livingstone, one of the event organisers.
"I promised to donate £1,000 per year to the Camp as long as it remained open – and this year I am using that money, and considerably more, to host this Valentines fundraiser in Prestatyn in the hope to raise as much money as possible for the camp" he adds "I hope you can join us and support this event and I'm sure you will have a fabulous night!"

Children are welcome and there will be a free buffet. Dress code is smart casual.
Tickets £10 or pay on the door. There's also the possibility of a coach going from Salford.
