20,000 free copies of Salford Star print magazine Issue 11 are set to hit the streets from tomorrow, with the very latest news views, info and iffy actions going off on the banks of the Irwell.

Within 48 luscious pages there's Salford superstar, Graham Nash, returning to his roots; a special look at the Lower Broughton flood; a chat with Salford City Mayor candidates, and an investigation into Booming Ordsall – but booming for whom? Residents give their verdict! Plus loads, loads more...

The new print issue of Salford Star is jam packed with Irwell-style surprises, from city's new shoe sensation, to Seedley's role in Ireland's Easter Rising, Langworthy's Ridiculous Lifestyle clothes collection, and the Clifton-based fastest blind man on earth...

Meanwhile, over in Ordsall, the speculators and developers are cashing in – as the residents are checking out. Boom for one half. Bust for the other. The Salford Star investigates.

And as the official report on the Boxing Day flood is still awaited, the community tries to answer `What went wrong?'. Elsewhere, the extended Salford Star Mary Burns Awards honours those whose iffy actions excelled – who will win the Magic Beans Award?

Got one from The Wellington pub on th' Height. Not read it yet but it looks good. Only just noticed it on my way out of the pub, the cover could have been a bit brighter to make it stand out. Maybe make the 'Salford Star' banner solid white (or whatever colour...) next time?

Great! Only time we get to read the truth backed up by facts, without spin. Only time Salford Citizens have a voice that can be heard by so many, without it being altered or edited to suit others. Where do we get a copy from? The Gateway, always supportive of the entire community....I would hope??! 😉 After all they allowed a private company to use their foyer for over 2 weeks (hope they were charged a fee) it was to promote a private development of houses but hidden under the guise of a '£2 million pound sports village' (utter nonsense of course, you'll never see it, what is being stated is on offer they will not guarantee, must speak volumes surely) that even Salford Council state is only a 'refurb' at best, that's because there is no way you'll get a 'sports village' because FOI reveals that Lancashire County Cricket Club are NOT providing any funding towards the cost as the Council & developers are telling the community. All Lancashire County Cricket Club have offered is to be 'supportive' IF they are allowed to use the premises for free! WHY??!! BUT the people of Walkden and the wider community of Salford, who will lose vital green public open space land if Salford Council decide to sell the land Hill Top Moss next to Walkden Cricket Club, will gain very little in return, will NOT be allowed to use it free of charge. In fact it will be too expensive for most in the community. There is a suitable & available brownfield site literally within a few minutes walk of this one, so if they're so keen to build in Walkden and to do so much for the community of Walkden, can build there and still provide the '£2 million pound sports village' they are so desperate to provide us with, then everyone will be happy! So ask yourselves why they refuse that option and why Urban Vision (Salford Councils planning/ land dept.) refuse to put that option to them! Clearly what is best for Salford Citizens is not top of their list as they all profess! Salford Council have also confirmed that they are definitely NOT providing any money towards it. So where is the '£2 million' coming from, not from the sale of so few houses that's for sure! Even our MP who is giving this land grab her approval and has met with developers but who continually refuses to meet with concerned constituents, even she refuses to answer & seems misguided as to the facts. No doubt developers will do what nearly all developers do in Salford, they'll make promises they can't keep (some never have any intentions to keep) under Section 106, so they'll get the land complete with promised planning permission, before it even goes to the planning panel, it's a done deal, but then when houses are built and they have their money lining their own pockets, will turn round and plead poverty, as they all do in Salford, and Salford Council will let them off paying/providing what was promised (in Trafford they've not allowed any to do that & developers still build there). Salford Council too busy no doubt giving away millions of pounds of our money, public money, to sports clubs owned by multi millionaires i.e. Salford Reds. In fact Salford Council behaved appallingly when concerned residents were forced to make FOI requests to get information that they required to be able to make informed choices, because Salford Council refused to meet and to tell us what we asked of them, that Salford Council didn't want the community to see (you can't help but wonder why), effectively they broke the law, to the extent that the Information Commissioner took them to task for it. Salford Council were so incensed that the IC held them to account for their blatant breaches of the FOI law, that they have chosen to appeal it. Salford Council don't want Salford Citizens to know the truth behind these projects of theirs, but thanks to Salford Star the truth and facts can be made available to us all. Thanks to Salford Star for giving Salford Citizens a voice that can be heard by so many (just such a shame that Salford Council refuse to listen to the voice of the community they are paid by and who they profess to serve!). Thanks for all your hard work Salford Star!!!!

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
