The Barton Moss Community Protection Camp looks set to continue to be sited on the access road to the IGas exploratory drilling site until the unconventional energy company's work in Salford is complete.
Despite Monday's ruling by Judge Pelling granting Peel Holdings a possession order, effectively giving the company the right to evict the Camp, a last minute appeal was lodged with the Court of Appeal in London (see here and see here).
Now lawyers working for the defendants in the case have been told to submit their appeal evidence by 26th March, and only after that will a date for the oral hearing be set.
This effectively rules out any eviction until the end of the month, when IGas has stated it will cease its current phase of drilling.
A statement by Frack Free Greater Manchester tonight thanked lawyers Ugo Hayter from Leigh Day Solicitors and Lindsay Johnson from Doughty Street Chambers "who have been working so hard on this on a pro bono basis".
While the Camp celebrates its reprieve tonight, protectors are also reflecting upon a day when Greater Manchester Police was again accused of more brutality and more sinister activities…
