SALFORD STAR BACKS BARTON MOSS POLICING PUBLIC INQUIRY CALL

PUBLIC INQUIRY PETITION DRAWS ALMOST 1000 SIGNATURES IN LESS THAN A DAY
A call for a judge-led Public Inquiry into the way that Greater Manchester Police has acted at the Barton Moss Community Protection Camp has drawn almost 1,000 signatures in less than a day.
The petition on the official Government website follows over one hundred arrests of anti-fracking campaigners at the IGas exploratory drilling site at Barton Moss. The Salford Star is backing the call for a Public Inquiry.

Having witnessed over one hundred arrests amidst video and photo backed allegations of Greater Manchester Police brutality at the Barton Moss Community Protection Camp, an official petition has been launched on the HM Government website – drawing almost 1,000 signatures in less than a day.
The petition, headed `We Demand A Public Enquiry Into The Policing Of Barton Moss Camp Salford', reads… "We urgently call for a public enquiry (judge led) into the way that the Greater Manchester Police have policed Barton Moss Community Protection Camp Irlam".
The policing of the Camp has constantly drawn criticism, beginning with the arrest of a pregnant woman, Maria Sanders, and the shoving of a disabled man into a ditch in the second week of December (see here).
Following her arrest for `threatening behaviour', Maria wrote an open letter to Greater Manchester Police stating "If this officer… is genuinely threatened by a woman who is five months pregnant and at the time walking backwards drinking a cup of lukewarm tea…perhaps he should be undergoing some form of psychological evaluation." Since Christmas, allegations of brutality by the GMP's Tactical Aid Unit (TAU) at Barton have intensified. Eight days ago, a live video was beamed around the world as disabled man, Kris, continued filming as police appeared to attack him during his arrest, under the supervision of a Chief Inspector (see here). He suffered a broken eye socket and multiple injuries. And last Sunday a woman called Amanda claims she was physically assaulted by the GMP after the huge Solidarity Day march and rally at Barton Moss (see here).
The Barton Moss Community Protection Camp and Frack Free Greater Manchester issued a joint statement recently accusing Greater Manchester Police of being 'out of control' (see here).
Now an official HM Government petition has been launched calling for a judge-led Public Inquiry. The Salford Star is backing that call.

| Why should Tax Payers who pay for the Police /see the police who's wages they pay/ Defend the Fracking Companys
who aggressively avoid paying any Tax in the UK/ The French Owned Firm who the French will not allow it to do their Filthy Polluting business in France. Will be making vast amounts of money for the French Government by Damaging and polluting the UK
To rub salt in the UKs wounds a lot of the Water Company's in the UK are also French owned so they will be Charging us for the UKs own water /and to all the accounts of Fracking it will go into Billions of gallons /and how much will that cost the people who pay water bills/ In the USA Fracking Company's have caused Droughts/ So with the Capitalist system of supply and demand house holders and small business will once again be under the cosh because of a profit mad government water will go scarce/ So that means costly the only water that will be in abundance is all the toxic water they leave when they leave the UK in a pollution soaked mess Is it worth it ? |

| Dan Hulse, Dr Peers, who was assaulted then arrested on trumped up charges is neither unemployed nor a cretin he is an electrical engineer with a doctorate in metaphysical sciences. And he now plans to bring a civil claim against GMP for wrongful arrest, false imprisonment and assault. And I pray he wins his case.

| The fracking argument is won, the vast majority of my fellow Britons don't want their country trashed by idiots. Now it comes down to why peaceful British protectors have been so utterly brutalised going about their rightful business of peacefully protesting. You'd have to be an idiot to not see the parallels between fracking being violently enforced not just here but simultaneously in Canada, Romania etc The whole rotten can of worms needs opening and if we don't stop this business driven anti democratic vision of hell now then we'll be answerable to our kids and grandkids. The police brutality at Barton Moss is way beyond just fracking now and nothing but a full expose and the correct application of our laws will do or we're all facing very dark times |

| The only counter-argument pro-fracking people can produce is 'they should get a job' or 'they should have a bath'. Well, Mr Dan Hulse, I will inform your tiny mind that I am indeed in full-time employment, and have taken annual leave to support the anti-fracking protest as often as I can.
My convictions are based upon my own research(there is much more outside of Facebook and Gasland, incase you didn't know) and good old common sense. I would love to say you are right about fracking being perfectly safe - but the devastating effects it's caused in other countries just do NOT support that claim. You do not need to be an expert to understand that fracturing the land beneath us and pumping it with poison is never going to be a good idea. |

| Mr Hulse I do hope you don`t live on fiddlers lane in irlam as now the trucks have a nice new road that as been unadopted and unmaintained for many years,, so you will be glad to be informed that your and our council tax money as now paid for this lovey smooth road to be used by- oh not the public but for the TRUCKS to get to the site without causing anymore delays in the traffic on the A57 a road with no houses nor schools. | Even if fracking were safe, it would still be within the democratic tradition to protest it. Today, however, even the Scientific American was talking about methane in tap water, and our water authorities were expressing concern about that possibility. I can't, personally, get to Barton Moss (too far) but if I could, I'd be there.
However, whatever the rights or wrongs of fracking, peaceful protest should not be turned into violence by those officers of the law who are supposed to protect us against violence. |

| I am disgusted by the actions of our police at Barton Moss. I thought they were supposed to be public servant employed to uphold the law, now I'm finding out that many of them are actually bullies and thugs, attacking peaceful protector s of our vital resources. Particularly appalled by TAU and the fact that the Barton Moss campers are classed as "Terrorists" ? World's gone crazy. I despair for our children. |
