Even without any added wizards and elves, Kersal Moor has retained its magic through the centuries as the place where Salford people meet for walks, games and total nature nuzzling. Next Sunday, however, the place will be truly sprinkled with fairy dust for Magic On The Moor, a day of magic, fun and fantasy.
Everyone, of every age, is asked to dress as their favourite fantasy figures – no, not the Salford City FC team, but fairies, witches, wizards…Harry Potter, Dr Who, Merlin and more.
There's going to be enchanted crafts, the Fairy Bun Café, Willy Wonka's Chocolate Treats, Kosher Corner, and The Pop Shop `Great Balls of Flour' with their special spellbinding cake pops.
There'll also be stalls selling Zulu jewellery, fantasy figures and much more. Plus the Salford Star will be there with a whole range of wicked baby grows and t-shirts. And in the foreground, Besses Brass Band will be playing, turning up the volume of Magic On The Moor to the max.
"Come sunshine or rain, come thunder or lightening, Kersal Moor is open to the public for 365 days a year, and on 13th October the Friends of Kersal Moor will be there to greet you, as we all say, `Goodbye' to the summer and `Hello' to the autumn" explains Alice Searle of Friends of Kersal Moor.
"This year's annual event is around magic and fantasy, so please let your alter ego escape and appear as some amazing or mystical being" she adds "You will all get a little gift for 'breaking out' of those every day personas and charming us with your creativity. Life at the moment is not too good with cuts and money worries and more to come. This is an opportunity to escape all that for a couple of hours and have a laugh and a smile in a beautiful place with its unique memories."
