After 15 years the Salford Star closes today, leaving behind a massive archive of over 6,300 online articles and ten print magazines, which are almost a real time document of the history of the city since 2006.
This was a fiercely independent publication by the community, for the community, and we're proud to say that the Salford Star is one of the longest lasting community magazines in the country, if not the longest lasting.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed those brave people who spoke out about their own situation, those who have donated funds and those who have volunteered their time to help the Star with articles, photos, merchandise creation, tech help or just general support. Thousands of Salford people have been involved in one way or another, and we thank them all.
There are also those amazing creative people who have cultured the city over the years with their music, poetry, art, writing, acting and film making, and those equally incredible people who have helped others through their community groups or other acts of kindness. Salford is a very special city.

We have also tied up the Star's history in the final articles listed below.
The website is to be archived in the British Library and we are in discussions about placing the physical archive at the Working Class Movement Library where research for the creation of the Star began. The website as it stands will be live for at least ten years.
In the meantime, we leave you with a final quote from Salford legend Ewan MacColl which we would like everyone in Salford to carry around in their psyche. We certainly will...
"One goes on fighting because not to go on fighting is to prove that you're no longer alive."
