Following the resignation of Labour Councillor Peter Wheeler, who has moved out of the city, six candidates have been put forward to fight the vacant Eccles seat...
Helen Alker, is standing for the Green Party, Andrew Darlington for the Conservatives, Caroline Stephanie Dean for the Women's Equality Party, Keith Hallam for UKIP, Mike McCusker for Labour and Jake Overend for the LibDems.
The Women's Equality Party, of which Salford City Council solicitor, Miranda Carruthers-Watt, was a member, is standing for the first time in the city, as far as we know, while the LibDems look to be back on the political scene after being decimated in the wake of Nick Clegg's involvement in the ConDem Government.
The election will run from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 27th September, and Eccles people have until Tuesday 11th September to register to vote if not already on the register. Register to vote at www.gov.uk/registertovote
